People already beat me to it. So ignore this.
You wanna bet on the savings reaching you the consumer? You think the price of your games will drop any?
Start here.
But hear is my view on digital downloads. Either the reseller needs to keep great records of the games, or we need an easy way to back the games up just in case of some HDW disaster. And their would have to be some convenient way to purchase and install games for those w/o internet access. There are ways to make this convenient on the new consoles. KG mentioned one way. Games on little USB Flash Drives.
I like the idea of NOT having to keep changing a physical disk.
So I want physical media that I can save the installation program on in case I need to reinstall something. Either I uninstalled it or for system crash recovery. Some way to reinstall outside of relying on the digital download companies keeping accurate records.
I actually like the idea, but only if implementation is done in a sensible way to reach all consumers and to always be able to reinstall from some kind of storage medium. Flash drives would be really nice for this if flash drives were as inexpensive as DVD's. I haven't thought about this too much, but I think I would want one game per flash drive in case the flash drive goes to hell on you. Then you are trying to recover one game install instead of a bunch of game installs.Comment

I can access Diablo from any computer in the world whenever....I just need to download and install. I have Diablo installed on my PC and Laptop....one purchase. If my laptop blows up or gets stolen....I buy another and reinstall. All I need is internet access obviously.Comment

I have a few Origin and Steam games. I like not having to keep moving disks in drives. But I still want to be able to backup the install program and files to a media so I can install and uninstall anytime I want w/o relying on Steam and Origin to keep accurate records. I had a couple of digital download games from some service, and a couple years later I wanted to reinstall and play them again. The games didn't show up in the digital download service, they lost that info. I had to go through their customer service and prove I owned the games. I was lucky doing a email search and found the order numbers and activation keys. I just needed to install the games.Comment

flash drives are even better. most games are less than 10 gb and flash drives are pretty cheap now. I got a 32 gb for $12. i ended up not even putting a DVD drive in the kids PC because anything i need to put on comes off the flash drive. the disc is useless. Games can all be DL or they come in iso formatComment

I have all my steam games backed up on a couple back up drives just in case I ever want to reinstall and play them and not worry about having to redownload everything. You just copy the files from the steam folder and it will download whatever is missing later on (or if there's updates)
