In the last year alone so from lets say from July now to July last year I've bought one xbox live title and that was Trials Evolution and I downloaded Doritos Crash Course one night when my room mate and I were finding games to play and bet on against each other lol. I also downloaded the BF3 demo/beta in the fall.
When I went to buy trials that was the first time since the battlefield demo I had looked at the dashboard. My roomie downloaded crash course while I was out at the store.
You don't have to goto the dashboard if you don't want to and like I've said before I rarely go to it yet I never have problems finding anything. I remember sitting in the bf3 party listening to people complain about not being able to find the demo while me who never uses the dashboard was able to find it no problem and pretty much had the game installed by the time most of them found it. I was just amazed lol.

Expect more Xbox Live ads
Gamers should expect to see more advertisements on Xbox Live in the time ahead. Microsoft announced this week that its first wave of NUads (short for "natural user-interface ads"), which rolled out during fall 2012, have been highly successful and additional investment in this space is planned.
According to Microsoft, 37 percent of viewers engaged in some way with NUads when prompted with the option to vote. Out of this 37 percent, 71 percent actually voted in a poll. Additionally, 97 percent of those participants saw their vote included in a final tally of votes.
Microsoft general manager of Xbox Live entertainment and advertising Ross Honey claimed the company's NUads have "redefined the 30-second spot." He said that though traditional TV's 30-second spot has not changed much since the 1930s, NUads offer an unprecedented level of consumer engagement.
"These results show that NUads is a real breakthrough in TV advertising, and you can expect more investment from us when it comes to this new ad format and video advertising in general," Honey said in a statement.
Microsoft's NUads launched last year featuring ads from major companies like Subway and Toyota.Comment

Some major First World Problems going on right here. All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.
"rammer" and "cummings"
The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.Comment

I am not sure what these NUads are?
Xbox Live must make them a fortune...with the fees for membership and the advertising...PROFIT DEAL!Comment

I just think they should remove dashboard ads completely for Gold Members and absolutely litter them for Silver members.Comment

I mean I usually pay for $40 for the year but that could be a game.Comment

The ads don't bother me either but what does bother me is the fact that they are still charging us for the service. Xbox live is probably making so much money off ads and such that why do WE still have to pay. I guess the simple theory is...because they can. I don't think memberships are not going down so I guess we are fuct.
I mean I usually pay for $40 for the year but that could be a game.
1) The quality of game connection is superior on XBL, this infrastructure likely comes at an increased cost than what Sony has to shell out for their own network. Average joe might not notice the difference in it, much like they wouldn't notice the different of using a wired/wireless mouse on a PC FPS game, but any experienced player that pays attention will see it.
2) The voice network. The very large majority of you simply won't understand the technical requirements for what XBL offers here. Voice is complete shit on PSN, let alone lacking in features.
3) Updates. How many times have we gone through total overhauls of the XBL interface? 3? 4? Regardless of your opinions of them, their attempts to continually provide a new and better experience are not free, where as PSN has generally been the same. PSN has caught up greatly and surpassed with some of the apps (netflix, sports streaming), but the O/S remains the same more or less.
4) Is XBL invulnerable? No. Is it more secure than PSN? Absolutely. Again, the requirements from both a technical and staffing level require increased costs. People will respond to this point and piss and moan about some nerd fuck on youtube who got hacked on XBL. Great, although I'd be willing to wager most "hacked account" scenarios come from social engineering and otherwise pathetic security from the user themselves, which isn't fault of either network. The amount of fucking morons using generic passwords out there, on accounts (like email) that can then link the hacker to just about your entire life...
5) Sony is losing BILLIONS of dollars right now, firing people left and right. Think about that. Both are publicly traded companies, which means they have constant pressure to increase their profit, so finding additional means to make more is required. Also, both Sony and Microsoft reporting LOSSES on their PS3/Xbox divisions this year. Again Sony in the BILLIONS, Microsoft in just the hundred millions. MS as a whole company is surely making great money, but their Xbox division is in the red.
6) Download speeds. How many times does something huge release on both networks, then you can peruse the internet forums with PSN users pissing n moaning over their PSN download to take hours. I never run into it to that degree, but my downloads on XBL have always been faster.
I'm not an XBL homer, I play mostly PSN these days. But I won't be ignorant or oblivious in understanding why they charge. Yes PSN has caught up in many areas TODAY, but for all those years they lagged behind is because Sony is broke and this service wasn't helping that cause at all. Hard to fund a money loser, which both the consoles are, Microsoft uses XBL to offset that loss. Takes TWO years of you subbing Gold for them to break even on a console sale.Comment

I don't care what's on there, there could be pictures of naked men on there, doesn't matter to me LOL . I know that I put in a game and I click play game ,that's all I care about.
I do agree with JMS though, we pay money and don't get anything in return but ads. Whereas PSN plus, you get free games and stuff for the money you pay.
Sure, Xbox gives you better service and such, but would it kill them to give away free shit on occasion?
