First impressions
-Skating really changes the game, love it online.
-Won 4-1 and lost 4-3 so far, I blame the ps3 sticks cause it just feels weird to me. Goalies are better and will make some great saves though.
-GM Connected looks great.Comment

Almost every guy I've talked to at this point has said the game is god awful or broken as hell. They all hate the new skating and say its just a slower pace with the same bs that hasn't been fixed from last year.
I still haven't given the demo a whirl yet since I've been busy but ill have to check it put before buying this year.
Really how bad is the gameplay?

I have the game via EA early release .... and it drives me crazy to say this, but I'm sorry .... other than a few cosmetic changes, it feels like a DLC release. Nothing about this game makes me wanna rush out and spend $60 for it.
Wow ... fast skaters skate faster than slower ones.
Shouldn't that have already been happening? My Twitch video link: http://www.twitch.tv/dave374000

I don't think the gameplay is bad at all, I played a playoff mode this weekend, at 8 min periods and played 16 games before getting eliminated in 5 in the East final. To sit and play 16 games vs the CPU from Sat night through Sun night is not something I would have done in NHL in years.

There's things I like, things I don't and some things that don't seem to work right but I find the game to play quite well. Complainers gonna complain.Comment

I think im gonna break down and get it. Not a hockey fan but from years past playing with friends led to some very good games. An experience i cant compare to madden

So who has it so far? This is the first year I haven't got up and got it by 10am.All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.
"rammer" and "cummings"
The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.Comment

It's not about that, just the lack of notice in skating is surprising. It's rather significant and a pretty big adjustment.
Many posters who had Season Ticket on OS claimed the game was too hard and were struggling on Pro being outshot 30-10 by the CPU, unheard of in previous NHL. Probably because they are trying to play it like years past, you really have to change how you play or you'll fail and get frustrated.
It's funny how you pointed out "fast players are now fast" cause literally there was not much difference in speed last year..or any year. It's not so much speed now as it is the skating. Catch a defender flat footed or facing the wrong way and you can blow by him...previous NHL you could unrealistically turn around and cut him off.
This kind of change and stuff will rage people, have them claim the game sucks and what not....most people just don't do change. I say fuck em and just embrace it. Plays way more like hockey.
Another huge thing I've come to like is stick checking. Players are so much better at using their sticks on loose pucks, defending and on the forecheck. You can really harass defenders on a strong forecheck by getting your stick out there. In years past poke check was over powered, but it's not like that. The offence just has to take better care of the puck, as well as use tools like stickhandling with the RS or protect puck to manage.
The biggest killer, and it really needs a fix from EA, is vision control. L2 has become backskate/vision control...but backskate is whack and can be used cheesy if you want. EA is trying to patch it...but I don't care for that. It's vision control that's ruined....cause it doesn't fucking work.
You can't square up for a one timer shot, can't position well as a defender...if you use L2, your player will twist around like a fucking retard and end up backwards to the play. Shit is aggravating...you just can't use it as you used to anymore. Literally don't press it.
Regardless, I oddly, LOVE...playing the CPU and online. Both are a shit ton of fun and I will play 10x NHL than Madden this year. Easily.Comment

So literally none of my normal NHL buddies are getting the game today. The one guy who has it early pretty much said to stay away from it for a bit as its glitchy as hell and 1v1 is already overly frustrating thanks to EA not fixing most of the problems found last year. The back hand skating thing is as bad as we thought it was going to be apparantly.
I played the demo a bit last night and its just new skating but ignoring other problems.
Those OS guys your talking about must be absolute shit because even at all star difficulty it played "as hard" as last years did in the demo anyways.
I won't be able to pick it up till the weekend because I don't have any cash right now.

edit: Also, does that mean you should leave auto back-skate on for now if you can't vision control on defense? I feel like that's gonna feel retarded either way...Comment
