Assassin's Creed: Black Flag??
So today Ubisoft let it be known that a new AC game would drop in their fiscal 2014, which is looking like somewhere between October and March.
However, rumors are swirling that this next entry will be set in pirate times. Rumors are that there will be a famous Scottish pirate involved, as well as the main ancestor character being the father of a former playable character. Very likely that it could be Haythem's father, as in extended lore he was actually part of the Assassin order (which is why Haythem had all of that Assassin gear).
While this whole thing should probably be taken with a decent sized grain of salt, it makes quite a bit of sense given the popularity of the naval missions in AC3.
Originally posted by ExaminerOh the coming months to E3, how I love thee. Latest rumors have been reporting some interesting news regarding the "Assassin's Creed" series. We all know rumors are abundant this time of the year, but with recent reports during Ubisoft's quarterly earnings call, some of those rumors may be showing some truth.
On top of Ubisofts very own Yves Guillemot confirming that the next Assassin's Creed will take place in a new time period with a new hero, other rumors point in a similar direction. Apparently (and I use that word gingerly), the next installment in the Assassin's Creed series will be titled "Assassin's Creed: Black Flag" and will feature some form of a pirate story arch and/or elements.
This is actually not too surprising, as the two latest installments in the series; Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed: Liberation feature naval battle game mechanics and cultural influence from that era.
It will be interesting to see how this story progresses, as the popularity of the naval sequences from Assassin's Creed III and atmosphere of liberation were two of the most popular elements from both games.Comment

Really fascinating feature on how Ubisoft is trying to change the way large studios think about narrative within the context of multiple development cycles (in this case, Far Cry 3, ACIII, and Watch Dogs). I'd love to be a part of something like this.Comment

I have a feeling it'll be like Brotherhood, and just be an expansion more then an actual sequel.Comment

Yes and no. It's not going to be Assassin's Creed 4, that's almost a certainty. But in AC2 and ACB you had a continuation of a story within a story with Ezio. This game is going to have a completely new antagonist. It was pretty much a given that they'd go this route, but Ubisoft confirmed today that it will be a new character and a new setting.Comment
