    [ALL] Sports Gaming

I don't know what it is, but I have a hard time getting into sports games anymore, which is strange, because when I was younger that is all I played. This year I bought Madden and for about a week I was hyped about it and played, but eventually I just stopped playing it and have already sold it. I know the game had some issues, but I thought it was a decent enough game. I later bought NBA2K13 and really enjoyed the game. IMO it is one of the best basketball games I have played, but lately I’ve just had no desire to play it and am now thinking about selling it while it still has some value.

Is it just me? The only games that keep my interest are shooters, action/adventure, role playing, etc. Sports games just don't keep my attention anymore. Part of it I know is how massive the season/franchise modes have become. I really don't have time anymore to sit down for hours doing off the field/off season stuff. I like games I can just jump in and play. I also don't play enough to bring my talents online and get killed by some dudes that play all day. I guess I'm just getting old.

probably because sports games of this LONG generation have been the same for many years. Frankly playing the CPU is pretty boring. I only play NCAA football because it is with 11 friends.

      What he said.

I don't play sports games unless it's vs real people. Except for 2k13 but I only play the cpu when I'm doing My Player to build him up and take him online.

Sports games are limited as far as progression. Due in large part to the lack of competition in each sports category. I've narrowed my sports gaming down to Madden, which has drastically died down for me as well. Keeping up with the rat race of leagues and running with guys that play to win at any cost.... Just not worth it imo.

The only sports games I play now are NCAA football and Madden. Rarely even Madden anymore. Just gets boring after a while.

MLB The Show is the only sports game I still play. All others have just gotten boring. I'll occasionally play a round on Tiger.

2k13 is just awesome. Madden, if it weren't for leagues, would be a quick re-sell.

I still have NHL from last year I'll pop in whenever I get the urge, it holds up fairly well.

FIFA is really fun. No two games are the same. Keeps me coming back

Only game I can play vs the CPU is FIFA, all other games I need to play user vs. user.

IMO, 2k Sports had it right in 2005 with their VIP thing in NFL2K5. All sports games need that kind of AI.

Fifa and NBA2k series are fun to play vs. CPU. The rest of the sports games, only ok.

All sports games need truly aggressive and adaptive AI. Without it, games get boring very quickly.

That said, I also find playing online tedious at times, because opponents don't respect the sport and games are not long enough to truly replicate the real sport.

I play NHL 13 online a fair bit, just play now games ... and when I see goalies never covering the puck or guys on the penalty kill acting like they're not even on the penalty kill, it drives me nuts. But I also enjoy those play now games because I know it's not the CPU cheating me.

Frankly, if sports game developers even come up with brilliant AI, they'll get their audience back.

                      CPU was never very good.
We continued to get better and know more about the game.
CPU never improved, in some ways, got worse.

                      Pretty much sums it up.

Online only for me. Took me a couple years to not suck, but now it's great because the CPU AI is a minimal factor at best.

That being said, NHL has kept some of us vet's a bit on our toes this year, although I highly doubt any of us lose a 7 game series in the playoffs.

All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

                        "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

I don't think that's really the case. We're in what, the seventh year for 360 and the sixth for PS3. I was in the same boat as Realist. Ity really wasn't until late in the PS2 era that I started venturing into other genres hardcore. But back then I played the shit out of Madden specifically. I think I even stuck with the PS2 version two years into the PS3's lifecycle ((three years into the 360) because those versions were so shitty. So I figure I easily played seven years worth of Madden on PS2 and still loved it.

I'm still having a decent time with Madden and NCAA but the past few years I have either never finished a complete season (sometimes restarting a few times to be fair) or barely complete one. Back in the day I would play through multiple seasons easily.

I'm honestly not sure what it is.

I used to get Madden and NCAA every year and run a dynasty/franchise for at least 15 seasons. Eventually, I just lost interest. Part of the reason was the general shittiness of Madden and NCAA for the first years of the current gen consoles.
