    sure, thats a fair point.

i could make a top 10 list, but 7 of the games would be games i would not recommend people to buy.

of the games you guys listed (Seth, JMS, Swarley, Dizzle, etc) , how many of them would recommend to someone at full retail price? none of this if like this or if it was priced that nonsense. Im saying games you listed that you think are great and would tell anyone they should buy it at whatever the day 1 price was.

The problem with that is that everyone's opinion will differ still. For example, Red Dead Redemption is a great game by almost all accounts, and I bought it when it was down to $20. But, as a Star Wars fan, I bought both Force Unleashed games as day one purchases and beat them. I also ended up getting Borderlands 2 on an Amazon lightning deal at $25, but have yet to play it because I've got a few other games I'm more interested in before it. It might end up being a better game, but something else pulled me in another direction before it.

my rules!! wanted to keep it simple too.....thought it would be interesting to see your thoughts when cash is involved

and what you said is sort of the point to my view of 2012. imo, there are only 3 great games worth recommending to anyone without having to come up with reasons to say its worth buying.

take 2011...there are at least 8 games i would suggest to anyone to pay full price for....you dont have to say "this that and the other thing". its just a flat out no brainer reccomendation

edit - the 2 i wouldnt suggest are the 2 sports titles

That's a good point. And like JMS mentioned, in this day and age you can easily wait a few months, and even weeks in some cases, and pay far less than "retail" for a game. I'm including digital games in that too. And even if I didn't spend full price for a game on my list I can assure you that if it's in my top 10 I would still recommend buying it for full price, whether it's a $15 download or a $60 retail game. I would be willing to bet that guys like Swarley, JMS, Seth, Handle, Jay, etc would feel the same way.

For instance, right now I could don't even own Hitman, and I could've bought it this past week for $40, but I would definitely say that it would still be worth $60 and is deserving of a top ten mention.

Yeah, it's hard to recommend any $60 games. $60 is a lot of money, particularly with things like RedBox out there (I beat at least 5 games this year using a RedBox promo code for the first day free, and then paying for like 2 or 3 days worth of the rental). That measurement doesn't really work though for a lot of the games on my list, because a lot are downloadable "arcade" style games. I would recommend paying the full price for any of them in a heartbeat (considering the highest any of them are is $15 I think that's a fair statement. Hell, I would have paid more for Spelunky and FTL and still felt I got my money's worth).

Anyway though, to answer your question, of the games on my list that are $60 retail pickups on release: I think all of them but Asura's Wrath are well worth $60 bucks, both in what you get back from them and in their overall experience.

you guys over complicate everything. its just a way to determine if the top 10 games listed are game you would recommend...or if they are just game you put on the list to fill in a list

i dont understand why you guys have to come with all these intangibles for the games on your list. are they great games or not? if they arent worth the 60 dollar tag then they obviously are not great.

these games from 2010 (just for argument sake i am using this year) are all worth the 60 pricetag. except the sports titles only cause i dont like them...but im sure any fan of those games could argue they are great too

1 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
                2 Portal 2
                3 Batman: Arkham City
                4 Gears of War 3
                5 Forza Motorsport 4
6 Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
                7 FIFA Soccer 12
                8 Dead Space 2
                9 NBA 2K12
                10 Dark Souls

my opinion is still that 2012 was a shit year and the worst ever for games. sooner or later someone is going to agree with me

What are you talking about Maynard? I said that the majority of $60 games on my list are worth $60. Do you really take issue with me thinking there is a difference when you're talking about downloadable games that range from $5-$15?

I think 2012 was a let down for games, but following the great year that was 2011, it was bound to happen. It also didn't help that we are approaching the end of a console generation, and no one really had any desire to jump out there with any sort of new IP, we just got sequels and remakes this year. Some of them were good, some great, some not so much, but I would say that there was definitely a letdown from 2011 to 2012.

I don't know if that's fair TT. How many new IPs were there last year? Were there any games in most people's top 10 last year that weren't sequels or remakes?

I think that this year surpassed last year in terms of new, great stuff. It's just that the new, great stuff both this year and last came outside of disc-based $60 games.

And see, I don't really have any interest in those types of games to be brutally honest. I realize the expanding market for them, but it's just not for me.

That's fine. But I still don't think that its fair to say that this year was any more sequel or remake heavy than last when it comes to retail games.
