Interesting. Also consider that it sounds like EA/Respawn wanted to start a bidding war between Sony and Microsoft for exclusivity, and Sony didn't think it was worth the investment necessary to secure the rights.

Yup. That's exactly what I've said and how I feel about it. I love how the narrator of the video makes it sound like Sony was so dumb and 'woe is them' for turning it down.

It's not explicitly said, but it's not hard to imagine that might have been the case. When Respawn contacts Sony saying that Titanfall might not launch on PS4 because MS is close to finalizing a deal for exclusivity, it's because they (EA/Respawn) want Sony to make a counteroffer for exclusivity which means Sony would have to place a better bid than Microsoft's. Since MS was working with Respawn from early on, it seems unlikely they'd just let Titanfall go, and they'd put down another offer. Regardless of who would've received exclusivity, EA/Respawn would have received a better deal than what was initially offered, and that was in their best interests.

I think they had plenty of confidence in Titanfall. They just wanted somebody to pony up big $$ for exclusivity.

There was just a big article up on Kotaku about Titanfall. It supposedly would not have been made had MS not stepped in and funded it. Lawsuits and stupid stuff nearly cancelled the game prior to E3 last year.

That's EXACTLY what they did for Titanfall and EA SPORTS titles. The only "exclusive content" for X1 was a few UT packs but MS shelled out serious dough.
