A speaker and stereo headphone jack are built into the controller. A mono headset will be bundled with the PS4; players can plug it into the controller for voice chat, and to hear sound effects being piped through the controller.

The DualShock 4 retains the Sixaxis sensor that was present in the PlayStation 3 controller, although Sony says it is a new, "highly sensitive" sensor. The light bar contains three LEDs that can light up in various colors to provide useful information to players. For example, the bar will be illuminated in the same color as a player's avatar to let them know which on-screen character they're controlling. It can also change colors to tell players that their health is low.

Sony has merged the traditional Start and Select buttons into a single "Options" button. The company also says it worked with developers to refine the analog sticks and triggers; the stick surface is concave, like on an Xbox 360 controller. The touchpad is a capacitive panel that supports two simultaneous input points, and the controller uses Bluetooth 2.1 for wireless communication.

Unlike the PS3's Sixaxis and DualShock 3 controllers, the DualShock 4 can be charged through the PS4 even when the console is on standby. Sony says micro-USB smartphone chargers can also be used to charge the PS4. The battery itself is a non-removable lithium-ion power source.

The current design, which Sony says is tentative, weighs in at 210 grams and measures 162mm x 52mm x 98mm.
    Good Job Sony!!!

        well this kind of sux.

Sony: PSN games won't transfer to the PS4, nor will your game saves
It's the morning after the night before, and Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has just confirmed to us that current-generation PSN titles won't transfer across to the PlayStation 4. The company admitted last night that PS3 games wouldn't be compatible with the latest console, but has added that it will try to make titles playable "in some form." Because the architecture of the Power-PC-based PS3 and x86-based PlayStation 4 are so different, Sony will only bring across games that don't guzzle the latest console's power in emulation. The executive also said that the company aims to offer server-side and cloud services to offer a wider library of older games, but said that's one for the "longer term."

Honestly I don't care....who wants to play old games on a new system?

My PS3 isn't going anywhere so doesn't really bother me.

          I'll have both systems.

Yeah I imagine a lot of people will keep their PS3s but having to switch consoles to play a PS3 game that came out 6 months ago will get old. My guess is that most people that buy a PS4 at launch wont be playing their PS3 much.

I bought both PS3 and 360 at launch...never touched the old games.

              Agreed.

But I have a backlog of PS3/PSN games to finish and no way I'll complete it before the PS4 launch, lol.

I hope they get to accomplish all these goals when it comes to PSN. They said they want every PS game playable on the PS4 but I'm sure there are legal hurdles that won't (can't) be agreed on. I'd be happy with just PS3 games on the PS4 store.

With that being said GameStop has an email alert program that tells you when we can preorder the ps4

Alot of that Gakai stuff is all a WIP. He said "Some Day". Who knows if we will ever see any of this stuff. All these companies at these press conferences spew out a lot of "potential" features that never actually make it in the console.

The PlayStation 4 supports 4K resolution output, Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida just told us – but only for video that was recorded in the format. He clarified that games do not play in 4K.

On the upside, that means you don't have to go buy a 4K television yet. On the ... other upside, it prevented Sony from calling the thing "PlayStation 4K."

Yoshida: Share button is a 'huge focus' for PS4 strategy

Shuhei Yoshida went into the importance of the DualShock 4's share button for the PS4's overall strategy in a roundtable discussion this morning. He says that it's a "huge focus" for Sony, and one of the key features of the PS4.

"We believe that that's important for consumers today -- to talk about or share what they're doing with other people," Yoshida said. "It's just part of their lifestyle to find something interesting on the internet and immediately share it with other people."

Sony wants to bring that behavior that consumers already have to the PS4, allowing them to share without needing to use other devices.

"If something cool happens, just push the button," Yoshida grinned.

He said that the share system is expandable, and that when they work out partnerships with other service providers, they will be selectable options from this share button.
