Resident Evil: Revelations Coming to Almost Every Other Platform
Originally posted by GiantBomb
If you missed out on Resident Evil: Revelations because it was a 3DS exclusive, Capcom’s taking that excuse off the table. Revelations is headed to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC on May 21.
You may or may not take issue, though, with Capcom charging $50 for this upgraded version of the game. It’ll arrive on a physical disc for Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U, and also launch digitally day-one for PS3 and PC. Digital launches on both Xbox 360 and Wii U are promised at a later date.
This version comes with a few other additions, too. Hunk is now playable in Raid mode, which has one or two players fighting through single-player maps outfitted with new enemy layouts. Capcom has also added a new enemy type, more weapon customization options, and another difficulty mode.
And you know what? Resident Evil: Revelations was a better game than Resident Evil 6. There was more tension and atmosphere in Revelations’ primary ship location than anything I came across in the way-too-long RE6.
Capcom’s Sad Excuse For Not Releasing Resident Evil: Revelations On The Vita
3DS game Resident Evil: Revelations is being remade in HD, and will be coming to just about every platform under the sun in May. That means the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. Curiously, the Vita is absent from the list, even though it could easily handle it. So, uh, why?
Replying to user questions on the PlayStation blog, Capcom's Mike Lunn says "when we were developing Revelations for new platforms we really wanted to hone in on the experience you get with a large format screen, surround sound, etc. This type of setup really helps players get sucked into the horror vibe and enjoy the game to its fullest extent."
Um... the original game was released on an SD handheld with small screens. So that dog ain't gonna hunt. I think what Lunn obviously wants to say, but can't, is "well, we're not bothering because nobody will buy it". And as I look lovingly towards my beautiful, but dust-gathering Vita, that makes me a little sad.

Is anyone picking this up? I'm watching a stream of it right now. Looks pretty good (definitely better than the last two RE games). It seems like it brings back that survival horror feel that RE games have been severely lacking recently. I have an RE itch I'd like to scratch so I hope this game goes on sale soon.
Based on what I've played of the 3DS version and the PS3 demo I wouldn't pay more than $20 for the game. The story and voice acting are old school RE fare, meaning absolutely dreadful.
I am done with the RE franchise. They peaked at RE4 and that is where I will remember it. They make these action zombie killer games now that everyone else makes and they are not good. People buy them based on the beand and the characters. If RE6 was a new IP....the studio would be closed by now.

That's the point I was making with this one. From what everyone is saying, it goes back to the survival/horror roots unlike the last handful of RE games.
Although I don't blame anyone for not getting one of the games again. I enjoyed RE5, but it's very clear that the Resident Evil franchise has gone downhill very fast this generation. That said, I will try this one out at some point since it seems to try to go back to the glory days of RE.
I would argue RE4 is very much an action game and not survival horror either. I have liked what I played of 5 though, even if it just makes me want to be able to move and shoot.
The thing I never get is this idea that RE tailed off horribly. RE1 had decent atmosphere, terrible story, the worst voice acting and horrific controls that actually actively worked against you. RE2 was my personal favorite, the atmosphere was great, and everything else pretty much just as bad (story, VA, controls). They were unique for their time, but if they were still making games similar to that no one would play them. I don't blame Capcom for trying to improve the action/gameplay. The problem is there is a weird amount of hype for RE lore/story, so games like RE6 get shit on when it sounds like it isn't even that awful, just it doesn't live up to the ridiculously lofty expectations of the series.
Was just talking about this the other day with a friend, so I thought I'd offer my 0.02.
RE6 was not awful at all, although I know I'm in the minority around here. I guess hating on it is like slobbing on Bioshock Infinite's dick. It's the cool thing to do.
The original RE games (RE1-3), especially 1, were just so new at the time. The voice acting, as I mentioned, was horrible. I still don't know if they were going for that awful B-movie experience on purpose or not. This game is very similar to those old games in that respect. Listening to the dialogue between Jill and that French idiot is cringe worthy to be honest. The action is still decent though and there is definitely much more of a "survival" feel than recent games though.

So b/c your opinion differs from other people, other people are idiots and completely wrong?
Well, you did kind of do that Twigg thing where you act like your opinion is paramount.
Please don't huff and puff over this, I don't care either way. Just saying, I think you knew what you were doing with that statement, you know what Swarley is talking about and you're being coy.

Did you say that exactly word for word? No. But that's certainly what you meant.
Not what I meant or what I was trying to say at all. Don't put words in my mouth or make assumptions. I'm honestly baffled how an overwhelming majority of people can feel so strongly, one way or the other, about those two games. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It just seems like with certain things the opinion is already set in stone by the masses even before a game releases.
Bioshock had so much hype leading up to release that all they had to do was make a mediocre game for most people (which is what I believe it is) and they will still ride aboard the hype train. Whereas with RE6, most all media outlets shit on that game immensely so it was the cool thing to do by even people that never even played it. If you still have genuine opinions on both that match those of the masses, then you're entitled to them. I don't think you're dumb, stupid or otherwise. I staunchly disagree but that doesn't mean I think you somehow have less intelligence than I do.

Hey, I'm certainly willing to take your word for it. I'm just saying, you have a history of doing that and that was how it came across. I personally don't really care who likes what games as long as I like them. Right now I'm playing and loving games that are popular at NeoGAF for Christ's sake. I'm not doing it because they like them, that's for sure.
