The latter you write is the realization that they didn't have the online audience anymore and they moved back to franchise. This is what I've said countless times. Tell me bucky, what is online specifically getting now that they changed focus? They got a tacked on OTP mode that has no substance with terrible lobbies, or just communities which is just a fractured leaderboard system that didn't work at all. See, the shoe is on the other food, instead of shafting franchise like they did in the past to focus on online, it's the other way around. Online however is now included in the franchise mode, cause it's all as one.
Just put band-aids on it? How you can possibly sum this up into a couple words? Did they just look at their old franchise code and decide that typing "FRANCHISE=ONLINE&OFFLINE" is too hard? Clearly you know that the old franchise code easily ported online in the mix of modes it exists in now right? Just needed a couple tweaks!
P.s. You seem perfectly knowledgeable and capable of building a complete football game, so why don't you?
What sports game doesn't be included here? What sports game isn't "fucked up" to some sect of whining gamer out there?
Sub par to you, me, and others. Yet 6M people still buy it, it still reviews well, so how sub par is it? I'm glad your opinion defines the quality and overrules anyone who's opinion is that it's greater than that.
More of this "it's all about ME" crap you whiny cunts are going on with.
Their physics were great to finally be seen in a football game. Ian said IT CANNOT BE DONE!.
Guess what, someone did it, then EA couldn't say that anymore and Ian was shown the door.
Backbreaker is a reason why Madden has physics now. So I'm glad Backbreaker saw the light of day and put physics on the map.
To ignore a segment of that consumer base for the better part of a decade doesn't go a long way toward giving them warm and fuzzies for your product no matter who is developing it.
These features aren't new.. they aren't new to next gen... and probably won't be anywhere near ready to go on release day if the past few years have been any indication.Comment

I want to see how buggy this years Madden is/isn't. I want to see if they (EA/Tib) keep adding features over the next brand new console gen w/o removing the things they are doing now. Madden 12 was the first Madden this gen I thought they were at least going in the right direction. If they keep adding to CC, and give an option for a realistic progression system, I'll believe this (Madden 25 and on) is going in the right direction. But they have to prove it first.Comment

They chose to scrap everything. They didn't HAVE to. They could have started with what was the current franchise code and built in online making it a CCM. They could have started with Head Coach code and built online into it. It's just code. You make it sound impossible. And a couple of weeks? They have 52 weeks. Or more if they make it a two year effort. 104 weeks to port, make changes, and add enhancements. They did a two year effort on CCM.
104 weeks, sure, if games magically print to disc and ship in a matter of negative 1 second, then you have a point. Fuck holidays, eating and sleeping, work around the clock mother fuckers! I WANT MADDEN MY WAY OR YOU ARE TERRIBLE!
I know a bit about reusable code and porting software. Also know a bit about support software (compilers and linkers).
Oh please. What major sports game over the past few years have been as sub par as Madden? Besides NBA Elite. What, NBA2K? The Show? FIFA? Whining gamer? You mean the guys that want the game to be at least as much as it was 9 years ago? Tell me again how great Backbreaker is and how we should abandon all football games for it.
The Show, all them bugs just finally getting resolved this year? Wow!
NHL? GM's who don't even know the rules and the broken progression had the league fucked within a couple seasons.
Yeah, so come again? These games modes were broken in ways Madden never reached.
You mean the 6M people that don't have another football game to choose.
It's not "all about me crap", it's about the state of the game and where the game should be by now. Not a hard concept to understand.
So how are them Backbreaker leagues working out for ya? LOL. Good physics, bad game. Wish they wouldn't have scrapped it. But I can still hear you telling everyone how stupid they were for not waiting for Backbreaker to actually be released and prove it was a good game. How about we wait and see and let EA/Tib prove they're doing things right. Or will they keep taking features away and add them back in as "NEW". I'm going to wait before I heap a lot of praise on them.

When you buy the exclusive rights to a sport you're going to open yourself up to criticism because you've limited the choice of the consumer from the get go.

Gamer says: FUCK YOU EA.
/logic.
I don't think franchise was as ignored as you think, considering this site has multiple online franchises that have ran over the past FOUR versions of Madden. We didn't always have the features we wanted, but prior to M10 we never even had the fucking mode. But hey, ignored for 10 years right?Comment

NFL says: Hey game producers, we're doing exclusive rights please bid. ........ The winning bid is EA Sports!

And was it a good business move for EA to lock up the NFL exclusivity? No doubt. It gives them a chance to roll out a yearly roster update that they know people will buy if they want to play a football video game.
That doesn't change the fact that cutting off the consumer's purchase options will in iteself engender ill will towards a company. Ill will that is exacerbated by an ever fluctuating development team, flawed release day titles and repackaged features being touted as "new".Comment

And yeah I love NBA 2K but it's not without it's glitches. I just wish that EA was availed the opportunity to make a basketball game of their own in order to compe... wait a second....
That's....
THAT'S JESUS BYNUM'S MUSIC!Comment

I don't see what VSN having online franchises for four years has to do with the Madden development team's lack of innovation towards the mode for the better part of the past decade... that's far more of an apples to oranges argument than the one I brought up.

Hey now, I'm all for calling EA's bullshit with how liberal they use "innovation", but on that point, they certainly did.
Oh right, it doesn't apply directly to YOU, so it never happened.Comment

Cats are hard on EA & Madden, but I view all the sport gaming companies as generally the same...they all ship games that have bugs, they never really drastically change the core features......NBA 2K's franchise mode's been basically same for like 5 or 6 years dating back to the PS2 days lol....in NBA 2K12 we had to abandon our online association it was so glitched...2K didn't bother to patch it either......and don't get me started on 2K's shitty servers....servers that have been shitty also since the PS2 days....
The Show has basically been the same core game since MLB 07, and this was the first year SCEA attempted to at least upgrade franchise mode.....I remember skipping MLB 11 because the biggest difference from '10 was was they added analog controls....the rest of the game was a glorified roster update with slightly better graphics....but for some reason SCEA gets a yearly pass and EA gets hammered for the same crime
EA's biggest flaw with Madden is stripping the features and then putting them back years later under the guise of new......I understand that pisses guys off......That is about the only difference between SCEA, 2K & EA, they usually don't strip the core features from their franchises.....but in my eyes, you're not a hero for not upgrading your franchises on a yearly basis either....all companies read from the same handbook when you ask them about a possible new feature, [start lie]"oh we thought about getting that in there but there wasn't enough time. It's definitely on our radar for next year though"[/end lie]
CCM last year was probably the most drastic change in any of the sport franchises, I wish 2K and SCEA would do something radical with their respective franchises like EA did with MaddenComment

So when 4 years ago, they gave us a 32 player online league on the console....never done in any sports game prior....they didn't innovate there?

I don't really have much time to discuss the innovation of a game from four years ago, especially when it has nothing to do with this year's version. Unless one actually "new" feature every four years should be enough to justify a $60 annual expenditure..
That is what is being discussed in this thread I thought..Comment
