[ALL] Obsidian is pitching a new Star Wars RPG

Speaking with RockPaperShotgun, Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart said that the studio is lobbying to develop a new Star Wars game for LucasArts, now wholly owned by Disney. The game the studio is pitching wouldn't take place in the same time period as Knights of the Old Republic, though, as Urquhart views this as a bad pitch since The Old Republic didn't perform exceedingly well.

Instead, Obsidian wants to make an RPG that takes place between Episodes III and IV, when the Jedi are being purged and the Emperor is further securing his empire. Urquhart added that Obsidian designer and writer Chris Avellone, who has written several Star Wars comics as well as Knights of the Old Republic II, has, "[come] up with a really cool story."

The original pitch was made before the acquisition of Star Wars by Disney, and Urquhart plans on continuing to push the idea despite the transition. Will it ever see the light of day? Who knows. For more information about Obsidian, RPGs, the PC and more, you can check back with RockPaperShotgun in the coming days when they post a longer interview.

I'm trying to supress my nerd joy.

      Ready for my life to

Don't see how they could involve a Jedi in any major storyline between Episodes III and IV, but I can keep an open mind. Like everyone else, this should be KOTOR III but it seems Lucasarts is adamant in not going there, even though SWTOR hasn't performed up to expectation.

Force Unleashed did it but now they have to do it and not make it suck. Surprised Bioware isnt at the helm of this. I thought The Old Republic was great.

I imagine b/c Bioware has their hands full with a bunch of other stuff currently in development like Dragon Age 3, the next Mass Effect and a new IP that they haven't revealed yet.

So did I, but it didn't go over with the general gaming population that well. They shut out the console gamers with it being a PC-only MMO as well.

Bioware has too much on their plate. New Mass Effect, DA3, continually developing TOR and policing it, plus there's a new IP out there as well.

I don't understand why people say these types of things. This is a massive design studio capable of employing hundreds if not thousands on staff with multiple locations around the world. it is not a single person with finite hours in the day. it is also one of the largest and most successful gaming companies ever, with arguably the last standing quality reputation to its name, and is part of ea-bioware-mythic, about as big as it gets in the industry. their resources are for all intents and purposes limitless especially with a guaranteed cash cow like star wars.

Because it's just one company. By and large, they've put out quality games, but they've always taken development slow and not rushed things, nor taken on more than they can handle.

And even a "cash cow" like Star Wars has it's limits. Not even a year into SWTOR, it became free to play, and still has issues holding people to the game, primarily due to end-game content. Where has Battlefront III gone? It's a franchise I hold near and dear to me, but it's clearly at it's bottom right now.
