[PS3] streaming mkv files on ps3

is there a way to stream mkv files on the ps3? i cant get these to playback when streaming from the pc to ps3

MKV's are a pain in the ass for the PS3. Even using a media server and streaming it doesn't work that great. The few times I have done it, I used a program called mkv2vob and put them on a memory stick. I try to only download video content in DIVX or MP4 since they are natively supported.

Download Handbrake, it's freeware which can convert mkv to mp4.

PS3 Media Server will let you stream them to your PS3.

As long as your PC is strong enough, you won't have to deal with stuttering issues since it transcodes the .mkv files on the fly.

I don't have any luck with this format with PS3 Media Server. Though overall it's a great program, it doesn't seem to transcode mkv's on the fly properly like it's supposed to for me. I'd still try PSM, it's theoretically supposed to support mkv playback but it never does for me. Other than that converting them out of handbrake might be your best bet, but that takes quite a while and is less than ideal.

You're better off just converting the files if you are stuck with them, or as MrBill said: go for DivX or mp4.
