I can't wait for Swarley's thoughts on this game after watching his stream last night.

I've seen games that legitimately crank up difficulty via harder enemy types or just wash over you with bigger mobs and less ammo.

    THIS?

The game's mechanics look broken-to-shit during certain sequences.

I won't say "skip" because I personally haven't touched the game but 3rd hand... woof.

That part definitely didn't paint a good picture lol. However, outside of that one part, I did enjoy everything I was doing the in game. I'm ready to dig into it more to see how it progresses.

I'm not sure if it was just the game being a pain in the ass, or if I just shouldn't have tried to fight that guy straight up there.

Wow, really? I am on chapter 5, and legitimately wish that I had done a custom game that ratcheted up the difficulty as much as possible. I find one of my biggest complaints (outside of glitches, poor graphics, and bad framerate) is that the game is so damn easy. Maybe it's my familiarity with the series and the genre, but if you approach it like a Thief game (combat is a no-no) and be patient, I find that this game is WAY easier than any of the previous ones, especially with the more streamlined methods to complete levels.

As for myself, still enjoying it, and actually finding the story to be somewhat interesting, if a bit predictable (it seems to be borrowing heavily from the previous games). It does definitely feel like it could have used a little more QA, but that might just be the product of stupidly trying to put it on both generations. I am excited to try the PC version, and the slew of mods likely to follow.

I'm definitely tuning in tonight (or whenever Swarlos is next broadcasting) to see if the game improves via vanilla-A.I. or if you gotta self-tweak it like SethMode says to get a better experience.

I got stuck in a fight with a guard (sometimes another would show up) that I couldn't really side-step. The dodging mechanic didn't always work how it was supposed to, so of course I got my ass handed to me for a good while before I decided to just run and try to take him out a different way. In my playthrough I have no interest in ever engaging in combat, but in this instance there was just no way around it as I hit a check point right after the guy spotted me.

The checkpointing can be a huge bummer. I try to manual save in safe spots whenever I can for that reason, because yeah, combat in this game is just kind of a mess (can't tell if that's on purpose or not).

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure if it was on purpose or not. I tried going at the guy straight up for a good 15-20 minutes with almost no luck. Then I decided to just run away and get into the rafters of the building and then I had no problem taking him out.

the reviewers said the game has broken mechanics and broken AI which allow you to progress through areas no problem. probably why it got such low scores

The mechanic argument I don't really get, because I think that for the most part they're pretty balanced (your ability to dive between shadows is a little over-powered, but so was Blink in Dishonored, and reviewers seemed okay with that). Even still, the custom game options allow for a lot of modification of the mechanics and what you can do.

As for the AI, unfortunately, nothing you can do there. It's bad, and very easy to exploit on the normal level. I still think that reviewers were a bit harsh with scores when reading the full reviews, but who knows, I'm only in Chapter 5-6.

Is the game worth getting? I'm still deciding whether to get it or not.

If you like Stealth action games and you haven't played Splinter Cell Blacklist then I would recommend that game. Swarley or Seth can comment on the worthiness of Thief.

I haven't even played Splinter Cell Blacklist, and I'd still say go with that first. I can definitely say that I don't believe Thief is worth $50 on PC, and I DEFINITELY don't think people should pay $60 for the console version, which sounds like the vastly inferior one.

EDIT - I'll also say, I personally feel if you're a fan of the Thief series, you'll like it. Although some reviews seem to claim that Thief fans will hate it. I think that that's hyperbole and often written by people that probably didn't play the original series. But that's just me.

Starting to like the game more. After last night and beginning tonight I was pretty meh on it, but I just did the brothel mission looking for that book and that was a fucking blast. I loved every moment of that mission and finding all of the extra stuff. Figuring out how to unlock stuff was fun as well. Looking forward to finding out what the next mission is.

My girlfriend was watching me play that mission. Got some eye rolls when peeking through the holes in the wall....
