    [WiiU] [3DS] Nintendo Direct - 4/17

Mario and Luigi: Dream Team (3DS)

We also got a new trailer and a release date for Mario and Luigi: Dream Team - it's coming to Europe on July 12th and North America on August 11th. The new footage showed off some of the game's new features, including controlling a Luigi katamari in the game's dream world.

    New Mario Party (3DS)

A new Mario Party game is coming to 3DS in winter, this time with 7 different game boards, all of which have different rules and features. Some are designed for quick play, other for epic contests. It's got 81 new minigames, including ones that make use of the 3DS AR cards.

    New Yoshi's Island (3DS)

The first new game of the broadcast was a new Yoshi's Island announcement - the first game in the series since 2006. It looked gorgeous - more like the SNES Yoshi's Island than later spin-offs such at the N64's Yoshi's Story. No release window was given, but just look at it:

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (3DS)

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D will have an optional Easy Mode for those who found the Wii iteration too difficult. It also got some new footage:

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2 (3DS)

The best was saved for last, however: Nintendo is developing a new 3DS Zelda game set in the same world as Link to the Past. This isn't a 3D remake - we're talking a whole new game, a 2D-3D hybrid, and it looks massively exciting.

I am generally staunchly opposed to Nintendo in terms of them trotting out the same franchises to death, but man, between the Link to the Past world Zelda, the new Mario and Luigi game, and the Yoshi's Island sequel, this is right in my wheelhouse those bastards.

Yeah I love to hate on them a lot, but fuck, A Link to the Past 2 just might finally get me to cave and buy the 3DS XL.

I might have to debate getting a DS for the new Zelda game.

Anything from 3rd party developers? Or does Nintendo save that for E3?

The only thing I would care about is Zelda. I never played the original LttP but everyone says it was amazing. I think I have it downloaded on my Wii.

Dream Team looks like it has turn based battles in it so...fuck that.

Mario Party is pointless. I have countless MP games and never play them. Why get it on the 3DS knowing I'll never play it online. Play against the cheating ass CPU? LOL.

Yoshi's Island is probably going to be solid but I never finished the first one. I got bored getting lost in the verticality of the levels.

And DKCR is just a 3D version of the game released on Wii a few years ago. A game that I really like but still haven't finished. Pass.

I really like Patrick Klepek's random video about these Nintendo direct announcements because I think he contextualizes my thoughts on a new LttP very well.

Further, and unrelated, I think that Patrick has been really getting better and better on the Bombcast of late. He and Vinny actually give those dudes some hope of playing games that aren't just in the main vein of video gaming. Good on em'. And with the beard he makes me think of evil Abed.

I'm the exact opposite. I usually couldn't care less about the games Klepek swoons over. Probably most because they are PC games. The only one in recent memory that we agreed on is Guacamelee. Admittedly I haven't listened to the Bombcast in well over a month though either.

Pretty sure third party gives no fucks about Nintendo at this point. Besides Platinum, who's locked in for Bayonetta 2 (a d I feel sorry for them) there are no games on the horizon that I know of. Why spend hundreds of millions of dollars are a game when the WiiU is selling so poorly? Just port games that you've already made for PS3 and 360 instead. Much cheaper.
