    [PC] Steam Trading Cards

The latest Steam Trading Cards breaking news, comment, reviews and features from the experts at PC Gamer

Join the Steam Trading Cards group on Steam to score a beta invite so you can start collecting trading cards, earning XP, and leveling up—yup, Steam just got gamified.

The games participating in the Trading Cards beta are Don’t Starve, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Team Fortress 2, Portal 2, and Half-Life 2, and up to half of the new virtual trading cards for each can be earned by playing them. The other half of each set is earned “through your collecting prowess,” which presumably means trading with Steam users who got different drops.

Once you collect a complete set, you’ll be able to craft a game badge which will appear on your profile and unlock “marketable items like emoticons, profile backgrounds, and coupons.” Badges can be leveled up by collecting the required trading cards again, and all badges—including any you already have—now give you XP which contributes to your “Steam Level.” Leveling up has its own benefits, awarding you “non-tradable items like profile showcases, extra friends list slots, and more.”
I got 2 more if anyone wants an invite

              Update.

Thank you for all the feedback during this beta. We've been spending a lot of time helping game developers get their Trading Cards built and released, and will continue
to release new sets of cards twice a week for the foreseeable future. Participating is up to the developers, so if there’s a game you’d like to see trading cards for, you
              should let them know.

We've also had time to work on some new features for the beta that we hope to release in the next week or so, based on feedback we've received:

Trade Offers: send an offer to another user of items to trade, even if they're offline, that will let them accept, decline, or make a counter-offer. You'll only be able to send trade offers to friends to start with, but if people like it we'll look into expanding it. This will also let you send an item as a gift to a friend.

Booster Packs: these will drop randomly for users who have received all their card drops from playing any given game, and who are continuing to participate in the community. Each booster pack will contain three cards for that game, and may potentially contain foils. The rate of drops will be based on how often cards are being used, to prevent too many flooding into the economy.

Game Collector Badge: A badge that grants XP based on how many games you own on Steam, to ensure that long-time users are rewarded.

Trading Card Binder: A way of showing off all the cards you've collected, including those you've crafted into a badge.
Thank you for all the feedback during this beta. The booster pack stuff sounds good. They definitely needed to find a way that users could finish their sets without having to pay real money.

I still have two invites. So send me a message with your Steam ID if you want one.

If you're looking for a site to match you with partners to do a trade, make a listing at seamkard.com. It could use some more functionality, but it's worked like a charm for me so far. It's definitely easier than sifting through the trading card discussion groups and trading with bots.
