    PS2 Recommendations

So I came across a PS2 slim for VERY cheap yesterday. Since I missed out on this console as a teenager (only had an Xbox like 2 years before I got the 360, plus I wasn't a huge gamer back then), I'd like to know what were some of your favorites that may not be the biggest known titles. I already have a list of some of the bigger titles I want. First off I'm starting with GTA: Vice City Stories, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and possibly Resident Evil 4. Note - I already have a few games for the OG Xbox like the GTA 3 trilogy, Max Payne 1 and 2 and a few others. I also own the HD collections of Jak, Sly, Ratchet & Clank, GoW and MGS, so I wont pick those up either.

So yeah. What were some of your guys' favorite games that may not have been widely popular?

      Shooting from the hip:

If you like or want to give a JRPG a try, I'd recommend Persona 3 or 4 (FES edition for 3). I would play 3 before 4, even though I think 4 is the better game. 3 has some design mechanics that will be hard to get used to after you've played 4, if that makes sense.

Psychonauts is always a game I recommend (as you know from my list).

The Mark of Kri was pretty cool back in the day...don't know how well it has aged, but the art style was awesome and it had some really cool game mechanics.

Have to second Raiders recommendation of Bully.

Dragon Quest VIII is an insane time sink and the definition of an old school JRPG, but it's very good if that interests you.

Beyond Good and Evil is pretty awesome, but you can also get that on 360 now in HD (although it might be cheaper on PS2).

That's all I have for right now. My brain is fried from staring at this PC all day. If I think of any more, I'll pop back in. I almost feel like I had so many PS2 games they're all running together.

Even thought it was popular, Metal Gear 3 not being on your list is highly alarming.

Bully was a really fun game... NASCAR Dirt to Daytona probably has the best career mode for a NASCAR game. World of Outlaws 2002 is another great (and unique) racing game that holds up well. Tony Hawk 4 I remember spending a lot of time playing.

Also the old Splinter Cell games were a lot of fun. I like how the story is setup in the older games than the 360/PS3.

This reminded me (for some reason): Manhunt is a badass game. Really cool and really creepy.

                    Edit....shit thats a PS1 title. Doh.

Try Tokyo Extreme Racer. PS2 days I mostly only played Madden and GTA only.

Some other thoughts I had once I got home and decompressed:

Odin Sphere, Grim Grimoire (both side scrolling/hand animated. Like the former more than the latter, even though at times the framerate can seriously dip)

God Hand. Just pure, unadulterated crazy.

Okami was another one I thought of, although I think that there is an HD remake of that out there.

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus if you don't have the hd collection and the Nippon Ichi games (Disgaea, Disgaea 2, La Pucelle, Makai Kingdom and Soul Nomad).
