Why do we hate Call of Duty?

I agree with the elitist take on it,
you hear "gamers" tlk about COD and it usually reminds me of how hipsters talk about anything "trendy", the franchise is incredibly popular, profitable, and easy to hate.
I kinda nothing it, like most rpg's...not my thing so I dont have to interact with that community,
Actually if not for Gamestop employees constantly asking me to pre-order it, Id have no ill will towards it at all...but I think thats more towards gamestop than anything else..
Seriously FUCK Gamestop

My hate comes from their complete lack of motivation. They completely changed the FPS genre towards the beginning of this generation, since then it's been a complete lack of innovation year in and year out. Yearly releases don't bother me as long as there's a real update of the franchise and it feels like a fresh, new game and not an expansion.
To what Med said, I really no no ill will towards my local GameStop. They know the games I play so they don't push crap on me that I don't want. Most of the guys who work at the one here are pretty cool, so I don't really have the hate that most do. I still shop at Best Buy 75% of the time b/c of the deals tho.Comment

I hate it mostly because other franchises like Ghost Recon and GOW have been negatively affected. COD really dumbed down the genre. We should be seeing so much depth and intuitiveness with shooters and we have nothing for years because of the COD effect.Best reason to have a license.

Im more or less burnt out on the series. Like Swarley and KOF said its pretty much the same year in and year out. Although for the most part any FPS is like that but some like Battlefield add vehicles and take away the killstreak rewards. I'll say i put in at least a full month worth of hours into Cod4 but its declined rapidly with MW2, Blops and MW3.

i hate it because of COD 4 Modern Warfare. Its not their fault they made what might be the greatest MP experience of all time. since then they been trying to replicate the awesomeness of COD4 and cant do it. Nothing has even come close to the experience I got out of that game.
Same can be said for Rainbow 6 Vegas. phenomenal MP experience....they wont get it again.Comment

We hate CoD because every game it puts out is the most popular game of that entire year. The popularity breeds hate because people try to look for problems and exaggerate them. Same was done with Halo, same will be done with the next big franchise that comes out, likely Titanfall.Comment

I can't get upset at Activision about CoD. They're sitting on a gold mine, and people keep lining up to throw money at them. Why would they risk losing those people (and their money) with massive iterations each year?
If anything, I think I'm more disheartened at the amount of people who continually go out an buy games like CoD and Madden, complain about how they haven't improved enough, and buy it again the next year.Last edited by padman59; 08-18-2013, 06:54 PM.Comment
