Madden 25 Sales down 40% from last year

It appears, on the surface at least, fans are no longer happy with the Madden status quo.

EA Sports reported sales of just over 1 million copies of Madden in its first week on store shelves. While EA was touting the success of Madden NFL 25, those sales numbers are down significantly from last year's number of 1.65 million in the same time span, a nearly 40% drop in sales.

The obvious culprit does seem to be many gamers are holding out for next-gen Madden, which makes a lot of sense. However, with incentive programs to upgrade to the next-gen game around and being touted by EA, it also does seem a large chunk of consumers simply are tired of Madden's current form and waiting for something new.

This puts even more pressure on the next-gen product to deliver a new and unique experience to the series, as fans are likely looking for that with the new game. However, for a year at least, it is likely the next-gen version of Madden will be a huge seller when the new consoles hit store shelves in mid to late November.

I think that EA made a bad miscalculation by not having their next gen upgrade programs in place and well advertised before the Madden 25 launch date last week. They probably felt that coming off of the success of Madden 13 that they could get a little greedy and have gamers pay full boat for 1-4 versions of the game this year. That backfired since most gamers have their wallets stretched thin to cover the purchase costs of the new consoles.

It's a shame because Madden 25 is a better game than Madden 13. I think the true story for Madden 25 sales will be known after the holiday buying season. I doubt that sales volumes remain at the current gap, maybe flat or slightly under last year when all is said and done.

A 40% slower start out gate is bad news. The only thing that is going to save them is that they have 2 Maddens dropping this year.

I think current gen Madden sales will continue to be poor compared to last year. Who knows about next gen...I wonder if people remember Madden NFL 06???

I only played the game like three times since I got it.

Maybe that changes when football season is in full swing but as of right now it just doesn't do anything for me.

Of course sales went down when another, better version comes out a couple months after it's release.

Enough people are having trouble with Sunday Ticket that EA has issued a statement saying they are looking into it.

It looks like a lot of people were having problems today with their Anniversary Edition Sunday Ticket. Mine has been working just fine on my tablet, phone and laptop. Will be interested to see what EA and/or DirecTV will do to make this right for those customers impacted by the outage.

Only reason I bought this was for the DirecTV add-on available on Amazon. But some of the features are sorta interesting. Connected Franchise and the Custom Team mode.
