    DLC...please don't be an idiot

After listening to several podcasts over the past few days this DLC topic has really gotten me fired up. It pisses me off to no end that companies like Capcom are releasing bullshit like costume packs for SFIV and multiplayer modes for RE5 for a fee. It pisses me off even more knowing that so many idiots out there are downloading this bullshit.
You do realize that you are just perpetuating expensive nonsense for the future?
There are probably hundreds of other examples but I won't go into all of them. And in reference to the RE5 debacle did you know that the 'DLC' is being released in Europe and Japan first and that in Japan it's only costing 160 MS points? Do you know why? Because for the most part the Japanese are NOT a bunch of fucking idiots and they don't gulp up DLC like us Americans do.
Now I for one mostly only download arcade games and such. I've never paid for map packs but I can definitely see the value in those if you play a lot of multiplayer. But costume packs? Cheat codes in EA games? (Tiger Woods, Godfather, etc.)
Seriously people, get a fucking clue.

Was that necessary? Just cause you don't like that people buy certain things doesn't mean you have to resort to name calling of a race.

Also I think that any kind of DLC is cool, regardless of if they charge for it or not. I would rather pay for some DLC than not have any at all.
Damn! That was total typo. I meant to type "becuse the Japanese aren't a bunch of idiots..."

My apologies. I fixed it. I was typing so fast because I'm pretty livid.

I'm pretty sure he meant to say 'aren't' in that sentence. Otherwise it wouldn't make much sense.
              You are correct.

              Sorry for the confusion.

Doesn't some of this stuff become free after a certain amount of time?

Some does, but not a whole lot. Hell, I'm pretty sure that the map packs for CoD2 and 3 are still 800 MS points? What a joke.

It does seem recently that MS and Sony have been doing a good job of reducing prices after a certain time. Sony probably a little more so than MS. MS has certain XBLA games reduced but the list is small and I don't think they've updated it in quite some time. They also have 'Deals of the Week' but most are pretty lame. Sony seems to constantly reduce the prices of content for games like Warhawk and such and even the R7C expansion, which of course I downloaded just prior to the price drop.

And speaking of MS and Deals of the Week, does anyone else feel the need to stab Major Nelson right in the face? He might be one of the most annoying people on the planet. I heard that there use to be a site called MinorNelson.com where some dude just ripped on him constantly but MS made him pull the site. Too bad because I'm sure that shit was hilarious.

You may not agree with the prices but these aren't always bad.

Take for instance the map packs. I'm positive that they wouldn't create the extra maps for free, so if people weren't willing to pay for them then we wouldn't get any of the extra maps at all.

Look at the DLC for GTA4. I haven't played it but if it weren't for people spending money then we wouldn't have got it at all.

Now granted there's always the possibility that some developers will intentionally leave things out just to charge extra for them later but thats just comes with the territory.

I don't mind that these companies charge for certain things like new missions or extra maps or whatever, I have a problem when they charge for new weapons, uniforms, cheat codes and crap like that.

I know hotshots was charging like .99c for new characters. That was pretty solid price point imo. Some of the stuff though like sackboy characters were like 3-4$ and there was no chance I was paying for that crap. That stuff should be less than .50c. I agree on the dlc. If its extra add on type crap ok, but dont skimp on games such as Madden with throwback jerseys or stuff etc. Look at NHL. all the jerseys are in there w/out any dl crap.

No matter how much people complain, DLC is here to stay. If you dont want to buy it its completely understandable, but imo if its something i want I may as well spend another couple dollars to get more out of the game. In the end, if its something that helps a person enjoy their $60 investment, whats another $5?

Stupid shit like cheat codes and horse armor arent worth it to me, but if someone needed to invest a couple of dollars on a cheat code to enjoy the game, so be it.

I think Twigg is mad because people buy stupid things like that and so developers aren't going to put them in the standard game which takes away from everyone else.

I understand that, but refusing to buy them isnt going to change anything. DLC is here to stay, so we are pretty much faced with buying it, or doing without it, period.

I dont like it, but Id much rather have the choice of buying DLC or not than to have the price of games go up across the board. To be honest we have been pretty lucky that prices havent gone up (again) for software during this generation. When you look at production costs, its a wonder more companies dont go under.
