    Watching AVI files on 360

So obviously that update came out about a year ago allowing people to watch AVI/divx files, etc on the 360.

Since I replaced my RROD 360 though I haven't been able to use that feature. It tells me I have to download the Media Update to do it or be signed on to XBL.

So of course, I've downloaded it about 1,000 times but still nothing. Unless I'm online I cannot watch the AVI/divx/etc files.

Anyone have this happen to them or know a fix?

Not all files that show as .avi's are playable. There are certain advanced codecs that the 360 still cannot play. Are shows that you used to be able to watch no longer watchable?

Also...are you saying that you CAN watch them, but you have to be signed in? That seems a small hassle...

All the ones that use to be playable no longer are.

Here's the problem though, right now I'm on DSL and I only have 1 router. So if I'm here on the computer, the internet is on the laptop, and thus off and not signed in on the 360. Well I can't watch videos then while I'm on the laptop as I must be signed onto XBox Live.

No, it's not a huge hassle but kind of annoying.

Yeah, I have to be online to watch any avi's too. Can't do it unless I'm on Live. Weird.

Hmmm... and it wasn't that way until I had to switch my systems, so I'm assuming it has something to do with the different console IDs but still... I've downloaded the Optional Media Update about 100 times and it shows up in my memory as being there, yet it doesn't work when I try it.

Do you really have to watch porn on your 360 that desperately?

Yes because Windows Media Center doesn't exist.

lol....actually you only need to DL WMP 11 now on your pc....no more media connect or media center. streaming has been there since day 1 with the 360

now to your issue, i have no idea why they make you be logged on to live. makes no sense

Definitely, it's got me baffled. Especially considering the Media Update is CLEARLY downloaded and in my memory.

I'm assuming it has to do with Console ID, but that makes sense for shit like Xbox Live Arcade games but not media updates.
