Virtual Sports Network Reviews FIFA 14
The annual release of the biggest football game on the planet has arrived. And we are not talking about Madden NFL 25. FIFA 14 is now available, much to the delight of soccer fans around the world.
This year’s version of the game is still using the Impact Engine for current generation (PS3 and Xbox 360) and PC gamers but EA was able to make improvements to the mechanics for running and shooting with the ball along with others that result in a solid experience. The upcoming PS4 and Xbox One releases will be based on the new Ignite Engine and are expected to provide an even bigger improvement on gameplay capabilities.
The CPU AI has been improved quite a bit and you will notice that the CPU players move with an almost physic sense of where their human controlled opponents are heading on the field. On harder difficulty settings, it can be frustrating at times as the CPU will not make any mistakes and even pro soccer players make mistakes on the pitch. That said, there are also some AI flaws from previous years that seem to have returned like the lack of aggressiveness towards a loose ball.
Ultimate Team has returned for the hardcore soccer fans that want to build their own team to take on the competition. The chemistry feature that was included in Madden Ultimate Team is also present in FIFA 14 and prevents you from linking players in your lineup unless they play for the same club or are from the same country. There are several new leagues this year and the menus are greatly improved. Just as with the other Ultimate Team offerings on other EA Sports games, you will find yourself buying packs in the store to try and build out your team.
FIFA 14 has added a lot of new features and improved on the ones from last year. The AI has been improved and it gameplay and graphics are what you would expect for such a major title. For soccer fans, it is worth checking out.
