    Finally FUCKING did it...

Well, I finally won the World Series with the Rays in OOTP. Been playing OOTP for about a decade now and I have never won with the Rays. Won with a lot of other teams in Historical sims, etc.

Never with the Rays though. This was the 2013 season. We won the AL East by about 18 games and beat Texas in the ALDS 3-1 and Detroit in the ALCS 4-2.

We faced off against Atlanta in the World Series. The Braves won the first three games to take, what looked like it would be, a insurmountable lead. Obviously we won the next three games to tie the series and had a game 7 matchup of David Price vs Mike Minor.

We won 5-3 in what may be David Price's last game in a Rays uni. I managed the entire game because I didn't want the AI to make any head scratching moves. Below is the box score...

Bet that was intense. Hard to share with anyone cause they can't possibly get it, but those SP sports moments when you grind away for hours and hours, seasons and season, then finally make a title game or whatever. Best moments in sports gaming. So satisfying.

Definitely is. Obviously it is not like the real thing, but, it is much more satisfying than winning anything on a console game. Especially since you have limited control over how the game is played out.

I run everything on normal with OOTP. I used to run with trading set to hard and favor prospects, but, I noticed that making any deal was just unrealistic. I had the CPU wanting Alex Cobb or Matt Moore & cash for 4th outfielders. So I switched it to normal for trading and neutral. I go with a 1-20 scale for ratings as well. In terms of play, I use the Curt Schilling set-up. Since I have limited time, I tend to SIM each game till the 7th or 8th inning and take over managerial duties from there - unless it is a blowout in either direction. Then, I will just sim to the end of the game. For Game 7 I played through the whole thing though.

Not to steal your thunder but I had a similar situation happen.

Me and Cowboys played an entire NHL season on NHL 11 or 12. We simmed the playoffs and played the clinching game. Well, we get to the finals and go down 0-3 in the sims. So we play the next 3 games and tie it up. In game 7 we went down 0-3 heading into the 3rd period.

We were super pissy and this point and couldn't believe we wasted all that time just to lose.

We end up tieing it with under a minute to go in the 3rd period and then score the game winner with <10 seconds left. To this day it was our greatest sports gaming accomplishment.

I know some Vandy fans that would kill to see this as a World Series game 7 match up.

Oh, I get it . I spend HOURS looking over contracts and trying to find players to improve my team .

I'm the GM of the Portland Cascades and in my first year we finished 67-95. It wasn't pretty , so now I'm in the offseason looking for better starting pitchers while trying to deal with players leaving due to free agency (and my limited available payroll)

Congrats RyanLeaf16, I know how tough it is and after 10 years, I can only imagine the amount of hours you put into it.

In the league I mentioned above, I just play the role of GM and let my manager deal with lineups. So, I sim all games.

I also do a college league that I play out every game, but its only 35 games per season, so its not that bad. Plus, since its college there isn't any trading or financials to deal with.

OOTP is the best game I have, without a doubt.

I will note however that I cannot play with real teams. I can't get over comparing to their real life counterparts. So, I avoid them all together.

Finally fired the game back up and now I am faced with arbitration decision and FAs. Withdrew offers to Ryan Roberts and Shelley Duncan.

Offered extensions to Juan Carlos Oviedo, Kyle Farnsworth and James Loney. Thought about offering arbitration to Rodney, but, didn't want to risk him taking it and being on the hook for a HUGE increase in salary.

Just received a trade offer from the Cubs. We would send Matt Joyce to Chicago in exchange for 30-year old Brad Nelson. He has less than 1 year of service time and his current ratings and potential are very similar to Joyce, plus he's about $2 million cheaper. I may pull the trigger. Nelson would never see the field though. He would take Luke Scott's place as the DH.

What do you other OOTP guys think?

A little late, but I would do that. If you are the Rays you have to watch your expenses, and you just doled out some large extensions. Save that $2mil. (Coming in seriously late here)

I actually went ahead and pulled that trade off.

Overlooking my minor league system now and I have a TON of potential, but, it is all stuck down in A, Short A and Rookie league. 7 of my top 20 prospects are at the AA level or above.

Going to work on a David Price trade today and see if I can't get 1 ML ready/established player and some near-ready talent.

EDIT: Only 3 teams can afford to take on Price's salary right now: The Red Sox, Yankees and Tigers. Gonna see if I can get something done with Detroit before moving into the division. Should be fun!

OK, the following are the ONLY packages that I could work for Price with the teams that could afford to take on his salary:

Detroit gives: Taijuan Walker/Gustavo Nunez (this is my least fav deal, love Walker, not thrilled with Nunez) I tried to add Smyly into the deal and they won't budge

Boston gives: Xander Bogaerts/Allen Webster (I like this deal the most. I initially tried to package a deal around Jackie Bradley Jr, but, they wouldn't even do a Price for Bradley deal straight up)

Yankees give: Ivan Nova/Brett Gardner (I like this deal as well. I can put Gardner in LF and DH Nelson. Nova can be added to the rotation right away and then I am only in need of a catcher for the big league club.)

                        Any suggestions?
