[ALL] #The5: 5 Games That Must Return

Today on #The5 we bring up some throwback games that need to make a comeback. Whether they are a decade old or just a few years, these are games that were a blast in their own ways, and would provide a much needed shot in the arm to todays gaming culture.

    5. NBA Street- We have a plethora of long, time consuming games that pull us in for hours on end. What we lack these days are games that we can pick up and play when we have 20 minutes to kill and want to get a quick gaming fix. NBA Street and it’s follow up editions were always great in that regard for me. Surprisingly fun with great controls, NBA Street was a game you didn’t have to take too serious. From ankle breaking crossovers to high flying dunks, NBA Street is an off the wall type of game that is sorely missed in today’s gaming society that takes itself way too serious.

    4. Smugglers Run- Before Rockstar Games was the Rockstar Games we know and love now, they released a pseudo racing title for the Playstation 2 launch. Smugglers Run was one of the original launch titles for the Playstation 2 and was surprisingly fun. The game difficulty was over the top crazy in single player mode but couch co-op with friends was an absolute blast. Smugglers Run 2 was even better for Co-Op but either one could be used here. Whether using a dune buggy, rally car, monster truck, or semi… one thing was for sure; the Smugglers Run series is still missed today.

    3. Red Dead Redemption- Number three on my list goes to another Rockstar Game; Red Dead Redemption. When you are great at something, you keep on doing it… and Rockstar owns the market on open world gaming. Take Grand Theft Auto and set it in the old west and you have Red Dead Redemption in a nutshell. Include in a couple of expansion packs for updated content and you have a game that has been on the market for several years but still has great playability. That’s all fine and good but it’s time for a new game. RDR2 on next gen anyone?!?

    2. Conkers’ Bad Fur Day- Rated “M” for mature was an understatement. This Ninetendo 64 game created by Rare (yes, the same folks that made Goldeneye 007) was a foul, drunken, and hilarious game that was way ahead of its time. Take an alcoholic squirrel and mix in lots of binge drinking and urinating on enemies and you have a cult classic. Throw in boss battles against opponents that sing opera and throw feces named “The Great Mighty Poo” or feed prune juice to cows so they defecate all over the place and you have hours of fun. This is a must have and must return… it is long overdue.

    1. NCAA Football- It hasn’t even been a year and I already miss it. We haven’t even missed one release yet and it has been too long. Yes, this will be the first year without a college football game and it will be several years (if ever) until we see another. We already miss the days of picking a bum school and turning them into a powerhouse through hard work and great recruiting. The announcement of the cancelation of the series due to legal troubles was one of the saddest days for sports gamers. Love the game or hate it, it is always sad when a pioneer is no longer a viable option to get a sports fix. Bring it back in one way or another.

What do you think? Do we have a pretty good list or no? What games do you want to see make a comeback?

Solid list. Never played Smugglers Run so I'd have to sub it out. My replacement: Wargames 2.

Don't know if anyone else played Wargames for Playstation but the split screen multiplayer was an absolute blast and I wish it existed now with the ability to play co-op online.
          I give rep not thanks

*Red Dead 3*. Everyone seems to forget that Redemption was the second game in the series.

Speaking of series I want to see back, there's nothing I want back more than the Underground series of Need for Speed. And I don't want it to be a re-imagining of the series like they did with Most Wanted. It needs to stay a true street racing game like it was on last-gen and like Midnight Club was. Underground 2 on the PS2/Xbox still holds up to this day.

And while I'm on the subject of arcade racers, I'd like to see another Midnight Club game from Rockstar as well. I'm getting really bored with these arcade racers lately that are all about banging into each other and not much else. I miss the street racing games that allowed you to race as well as upgrade your car a ton with normal car parts.

Agreed however I think "Rivals" is a damn good game. Possibly the best all around launch title for this gen.

There's nothing wrong with it, I'm just not big into that style of arcade racer. I want real car upgrades, not shocking/zapping/ramming upgrades. I want to be able to customize the hell out of exterior. After Hot Pursuit, Most Wanted and Rivals, I'm ready to go back to the street racing games like we had with Underground, Most Wanted (original), Carbon, Midnight Club...

Forza Horizon is only arcade racer that has come close to itching that scratch for me since Midnight Club: LA.

I thought a new Red Dead game was confirmed to be in development a while back.

I remember buying Smugglers Run shortly after ggetting my PS2 and maybe spending a few hours playing it. I think I was way into Madden (PS1) at the time and didn't give it the attenmtion I wanted to. I ended up trading it in.

I remember renting Conker from Gamefly and not beiing impressed at all.

NBA Street is one of my favorite series ever. I loved all of those games. It's a shame that we'll never see an HD version of the trilogy because of the licensing of the real players. I traded those games in also and very much regret it. They aren't very cheap either if you want to pick them back up.

They had N64 games on Gamefly? Trying to snag a copy of that game now will cost about $200 on Amazon.
