[ALL] Microsoft unveils its free Xbox 360 games for April

Microsoft has unveiled the two games it will be giving away for free in April as part of its Games with Gold program for active Xbox Live Gold subscribers.

For the first half of the month you'll be able to download Hitman: Absolution, IO Interactive's attempt at resurrecting Agent 47. It might not be as celebrated as fan-favourite Hitman: Blood Money, but the most recent adventure of arguably gaming's baldest hero was well-received by critics: GameSpot awarded the game a score of 7.5 upon its release.

From April 16, until the end of the month, Microsoft will be offering up Deadlight, Tequila Works' zombie adventure set across a beautiful 2D landscape.

The two games follow on from March's offerings, Civilization Revolution and Dungeon Defenders.

But what about free Xbox One titles as part of Games with Gold? Phil Spencer, the previous boss of Microsoft Games Studios who emerged from an executive cocoon today as the new Head of Xbox, said at the start of February that we would hear news about that soon. It's almost April, Phil!

Meanwhile, over in the blue corner, Sony has announced that PlayStation Plus will be dishing out Mercenary Kings, Batman: Arkham City, Stealth Inc, A Clone in the Dark, Castle of Illusion, Velocity Ultra, and Pixeljunk Monsters Ultimate HD in April.

Well...color me shocked that the games are really old, and more importantly, one ranges from bad to mediocre.

Considering only about 3 million people "made the leap" to the XBone and there are how many millions of people that still own and are actively playing their 360's? I would say a lot.

This is probably the best two games they have offered to this point, which isn't saying much. Hitman is very good and only came out in what, early 2013? I thought Deadlight was pretty decent, but nowhere near as good as it was hyped to be when it was part of one of the Summer of Arcade promotions.

But I do agree that at this point, four months after the release of the XBone, there is no reason why there aren't any free XBone games in this program. You're obviously trying to compete with PS+. PS+ included PS4 day one. Halo Spartan Assault maybe? Something.

I don't think anybody would argue that PlayStation Plus is beating the pants off of Xbox Gold with Games. Both programs seem to be geared more towards last generation but that seems logical considering the disproportionate number of gamers still on last generation hardware. Add to that the fact that most of the premium games that PlayStation Plus is giving away for free are at least a year old and the next generation has only been out a little less than 6 months and (most of) the launch titles are still going for full price.

Yup. Although at least PS+ is giving "indie" and/or downloadable PS4 titles. I didn't know Merc Kings was going to be $20. Not too shabby getting it free. I'm betting that Hell Divers will be the free game of whatever month that releases.
