Are we getting tired of shooters?

I don't think people are necessarily tired of shooters. The problem is that, from the two franchises listed, Call of Duty and Halo, they are releasing games every year. COD does it all of the time, Halo was up to that point for four years I think. They did a great job killing momentum with that franchise when they dropped Halo 3, ODST, Wars and Reach all close to each other. I think they regained some momentum with Halo 4 and are moving back in a positive direction, but I don't follow it to the point where I know what sales numbers were.
Probably the best decision EA made was not bringing out a new Battlefield for this year. I remember seeing where they were looking to start doing that, possibly alternating yearly by bringing back Bad Company, but it was smart not to. If you play something every year, it's bound to lose it's luster at some point. Unless your game is the only way you can get your fix, like Madden or The Show. Or like World of Warcraft, where everyone in the MMO genre aspires to best that game but never comes close.Comment

I used to be awful at shooters and would buy them and try to get better just to try to broaden the amount of games I play. I'm a lot better now though so now they're a lot more fun for me. I'm at my FPS prime. So since I'm relatively new to the genre I'm not burnt out.
I do enjoy BF4 a lot more than CODG. I don't think I'll buy another COD game.Comment

I don't know that I am over FPS games for good but I was certainly disappointed by Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts. I'll give the new Call of Duty a chance this fall and probably the new Halo and if neither of those impress me, I will probably call it a wrap for FPS games. The beauty of Borderlands was that it combined elements of RPG and FPS genres as Twigg mentioned. I could play Borderlands 2 all the time and never get bored with it.Comment

I personally love competitive shooters. I still enjoy BF4 but that game was obviously rushed, as well as other games. Hope they get it right for the next one. As far as COD goes, I probably won't be buying that game for a while. How COD stans still say that game is better than BF4, I have no fucking clue..I'll take what they're smoking please.. I usually don't shit on certain shooters but hat game is terrible, it didn't even feel like I was playing COD honestly. One match and I was done. I'm still waiting on Ubisoft to bring back RB6, but I guess with Socom coming back, I can't complain too much.Last edited by Point Blank; 05-09-2014, 10:32 AM.Comment

I grew out of FPS games honestly. When I was younger it was an exciting genre from a competitive standpoint.
These days I really only enjoy single player or campaign type of FPS games, and the only ones that actually interest me on some of the next gen consoles are the ones that are going outside the mold of a simple "war" game and trying to do more creative things. Titanfall is one that looks interesting (although from talking to friends they've given me poor reviews). Another one that surprised me and I am actually interested in trying is EVOLVE. The FPS'ers that are trying to do different things than just a COD or Battlefield are what stick out to me.
Now, if Ubisoft would bring back my Rainbow Six 3 or Black Arrow, I'd be a FPS nerd all over again. I still haven't played a shooter that was as cool as those on my original xbox.Comment
