How would you say it compares to the first? I watched the Giantbomb Quick Look and the map didn't seem as good, although, it's been a while since I played the first so maybe I am misremembering.

My first Forza game was just Forza 5 so unfortunately I didn't get to play the first Horizon. Sorry I can't help you there.

See, there are a few things in that video that remind me of some of the annoyances that marred what was ultimately one of my favorite racing games, FH1. Being able to just jump into head-to-head races with other players instantly is great. But being able to take giant shortcuts across fields without any penalty is pretty stupid. Also, rear ending cars at 150+ and barely even slowing down is also terrible.

But I guess you have to have serious trade offs like that if you want to keep the game fun.

One penalty is taking a wrong shortcut. You can end up in a blocked up portion and then have to work your way away around it which can severly kill your finish time. Knowing the map greatly benefits you.

Got myself the Digital version yesterday after redeeming a couple of rediscovered 800 point cards. So, that was $20 off.
