It's just hilarious that EA has put no effort into improving player models the past 5+ years. The tattoos would be nice and there really is no excuse to not have them when you'd only be able to see the tattoos on their arms anyways. The detail 2K has with their player model tats is extraordinary and yet EA only has the time to half ass ONE dude's tats.Comment

This is really it. Trying to spin this as some sort of "Well, maybe they just never did it because of the legal ramifications" is total bs EA ballwashing. They didn't do it because they're making football games, and football is basically the only sport where the developer can get away with half-assing it for half a decade on player models. And if it's something that can be half-assed, Madden will find a way to half-ass it.Comment

Several articles came out about that yesterday, and confirmed by media outlets.

So EA should just ignore the NFLPA contract that is written stating that tattoos have to be signed off from the artists in order to be able to be in the game?

They can say it was the NFLPA, but that's just them being able to have a legit excuse for work they weren't going to bother with anyway.Comment

They can lean on whatever reason they want, that wasn't really my point. The NFLPA could have said "do whatever you want" and there still likely wouldn't be tattoos in the game, as it's a series notorious for having zero interest in improving their character models.

As far as overall player models... They will never be accurate. 3000+ players to model and a good portion of them want paid for their time when it comes to body scanning. Some won't do it at all.
Either way player models look pretty damn good between last year and this year on PS4/XB1. Hopefully we get to see more facial scans done. Not sure how many they got this past year but it seems to be a lot more. Would love to see the next contract with NFLPA mandate face/body scans every year or 2 for every player.

There is no "they"... Even MLB has similar stipulations in place as discussed by one of their beat writers yesterday.

How is it not obvious that their excuse is bullshit? If their excuse was at all valid then there simply would be no player tattoos in NBA 2K for the same reason... And yet just about every player in the game has near perfectly replicated tattoos that the player really has. And the "Awh guys, come on, there are a lot of players in the league for them to scan" excuse doesn't really cut it anymore. It's 2014.Comment

Maybe the 2K guys get every NBA player and their tattoo artist to sign a waiver?
Even if that was the case, I don't know why players would be against signing such waiver because they felt the images were important enough to scar themselves for life with.
Nor do I see many tattoo artists declining a further national platform for their work.
