Final Thoughts on EA SPORTS UFC Demo

With EA SPORTS UFC set to hit retail shelves at midnight tonight, the question remains: how different will the retail version be from the demo? Typically, yearly releases see very little difference from retail to demo version but new titles tend to use the demo to shoe off technology and gather possible purchases.

1). Will the AI be as aggressive in the retail version?

2). Will the heavy strikes that should take out an opponent still just make him stagger backwards?

3). How immersive will the career mode be?

4). What about online play? Will it be clean or full of latency problems?

From what I've read, career mode is pretty much no different than the Undisputed series. Replace a few gym fights with TUF fights and that's about it. Not sure if the gyms will be involved as much though.

Sad to hear that. Was hoping for a bit more robust career mode

Supposedly there's a day one patch coming that will fix stamina, among a few other things. Not sure exactly what's changing in regards to stamina though.

As for the AI, they have something in the retail version that will allow the AI to learn from human players, their tendencies, strategy, etc which will shape how the AI plays. Not sure if that's exactly a good thing though given how some people play. We'll see.

Hopefully it's not just input reading like Undisputed 3.

Playing that game on hard was like playing Mortal Kombat II all over again.

Was watching a stream earlier with a guy playing offline and online. From what I seen the CPU wasn't nearly as aggressive, which was good to see. The guy streaming said a bunch of times that the retail was better than the demo as well. Out of all the online fights he had, there was only one laggy fight, it was obviously his opponents connection. Another plus I seen is that button mashers/spammers we getting their shit rocked over and over again. Just like in Fight Night and previous UFC games, the game looks good when 2 experience fighters are going at it. Looking forward to tomorrow.

S/N One thing I didn't notice is where the Gameplan/Ability System ties into online. It might only be an option for career mode which is kind of a bummer.

Ah, okay. The full game is 18 GB, the initial download is only under 3 gigs.

When it's downloading the rest, you can play the Bones/Gustafsson fight or Pettis/Melendez with the tutorial available, too.

I played a couple lightweight fights on Normal (difficulty options are Beginner--Easy---Normal--Hard--Pro). Definitely noticed the CPU aggression is not the same as the demo. One fight I knocked out Melendez in the 2nd, the other I was subbed by Pettis in the 4th.

                  Starting again tomorrow.

Played a match with Pettis earlier, KO'd Melendez in the 2nd. Going to let the rest of the game install while I'm at work.

Depends. I like this quote from Eurogamers review "too interested in capturing non-essential moves seen on YouTube rather than nailing the essence of the sport."

I could do without all of the crazy suplexes, wheel kicks, etc that make the game feel somewhat cheesy. But, as a hardcore MMA fan I'm still enjoying it and think it was worth it. It's a little arcadey, but there's still a solid mix of tactical play as well.

Presentation in career mode is good, better than Undisputed. Only got to a couple rights but you're essentially in a season of TUF, teams are picked too.

I'm liking it so far, once I get a better handle on the controls, I can stop getting my ass kicked online .
