[VITA] EA Is Quitting On The Nintendo 3DS And PS Vita

It looks like we won't be seeing any EA titles coming for the Nintendo 3DS or PS Vita anytime soon. I didn't see any being shown at E3 last month but they were showing a lot of titles for mobile platforms. Likely a smart move for EA due to the saturation of smartphones and tablets among consumers these days but it still sucks for gamers that like dedicated devices.

EA Is Quitting On The Nintendo 3DS And PS Vita

It looks like the Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita might not be receiving many EA games in the near future judging by recent comments made by CEO, Peter Moore.

Peter Moore was interviewed extensively by GamesIndustry International. One of the interesting topics that were talked about was EA’s lack of development for handheld consoles like the PS Vita and 3DS. EA is now focusing more attention on consoles that show growth such as the PS4 and Xbox One. The company doesn’t see any benefit releasing its games on the PS Vita and 3DS anymore it seems.

Moore said EA “were supportive of both of those platforms”, but then had to refocus its resources. EA had to think if gamers would still be playing on these two systems “two or three years from now”. He continues by saying EA is planning ahead for “FY 17 and 18″ and doesn’t think people will be playing on the 3DS and PS Vita by then.

EA may have given up on the 3DS and PS Vita, but still sees the potential of “mobile platforms”. Those of you that own a tablet or smartphone will still get receiving EA games in the future.

Are you a 3DS and/or PS Vita owner and are you sad you won’t be getting many (if any) EA games in the future?

More money in getting a few dollars here and there from a phone App than a one-time purchase for an inferior version of a game.

Especially if it's something like using the App to get more FunBux to lure that star free agent to your team.

Microtransactions are the way of the future, whether it's for tablet gaming, MMOs, console releases, whatever.......they are here to stay, like it or not.

Dev time for those doesn't outweigh profits pretty much

What games has EA made for the Vita besides the Madden that launched with it?

Madden always sucked on the psp and the vita. I can not speak on the Nintendo unit, however the Vita is an outstanding console that I am currently enjoying this summer. I look forward to managing my madden league team through remote play while not having to be actually sitting in front of my main console.

The way it looks right now is that the vita is going to get ports of main games and be carried by independent game studios.

Also. Gaming on my phone or tablet is something that I just can't appreciate. I very much enjoy tactile input and feedback. I will never buy an EA game on my regular mobile device.

First, Number_55, your posts crack me up. I don't mean that in a negative way, you just kind of robot out a statement and when I read it, I find myself saying "Huh, yeah, that is much more clear and succinct than I would have put it". I love this, in particular: "I very much enjoy tactile input and feedback." Very true, very pithy, and basically sums is all up.

Anyway, second, fuck it, I don't even remember what my second point would be. Number_55 makes me want a Vita!
