Borderlands Dev Reveals "Battleborn," A First-Person Battle Arena Game for Xbox One, PS4, and PC
Originally posted by GamespotBorderlands developer Gearbox Software today announced its next project, a "first-person battle arena" game called Battleborn. The game, a brand new IP, is in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It will be published by 2K Games, the same company that publishes the Borderlands franchise. Gearbox Software made the announcement today through popular video game magazine Game Informer, which is owned by GameStop.
According to a subsequent press released issued today by 2K Games, Battleborn--which is set in the distant future--is an "ambitious fusion of genres" that combines stylized visuals with first-person shooting. There is an "expansive collection of diverse heroes" to play across the game's co-op campaign and competitive multiplayer modes.
"If Borderlands 2 is a shooter-looter, Battleborn is a hero-shooter," Gearbox president Randy Pitchford said in a statement. "As a genre-fused, hobby-grade, co-operative and competitive FPS exploding with eye-popping style and an imaginative universe, Battleborn is the most ambitious video game that Gearbox has ever created."
"The size, scope, and ambition of Battleborn are unlike any other title in 2K's history, and the result is a defining next-gen co-operative experience," 2K Games president Christoph Hartmann said.
Battleborn will launch during 2K Games parent company Take-Two Interactive's fiscal year 2016 ending March 31, 2016. In addition to Battleborn, Gearbox Software is assisting 2K Australia with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and is working on a new IP that originally began its life as Brothers in Arms: Furious 4.
