Mario made his Nintendo debut 33 years ago today in 1981, when the arcade classic Donkey Kong was released to the public. I probably spent at least $50 in quarters playing that game at the local hangout across from our school in town. Who would have known that he would become the biggest character in the Nintendo catalog when that happened?

Well, if the topic is that, then yes, I do hate Mario. Not as much as I hate Princess Peach, Toad, or Luigi though. Oh, and Yoshi...fuck Yoshi.

Bowser is pretty cool, I love that the koopalings have celebrity names, the enemies in general have awesome, ridiculous names and there are some hilarious and amazing characters from the Mario RPGs, but other than that, Mario characters fucking suck. At least on the older systems they were quiet. Now they chatter on like a bunch of 6 year olds on cocaine.

I do love Donkey Kong the character though!

I agree with you, I haven't enjoyed or even finished IV and V after playing a whole lot of Vice City and San Andreas. However, it's one of the most popular franchise and there are the dude-bro gamers who end up living for the next GTA, Madden and COD, so they have to be doing something right.
