What Does A Realistic NFL Game of Madden Look Like?

Historically In Madden the majority of drives would usually end in either a score or a turnover and I think people forget what exactly an NFL game looks like when they get on the sticks. My end goal here is really just to prove All-Madden is more realistic than All-Pro but anyways...

All the games of Madden I've played vs VSN'ers have been played on All-Madden (I've played random ranked games on AP) and it has produced a lot of low scoring games in relation to what we're used to in Madden and I think people think the scores of these games don't seem representative to what happens in the NFL.

In the NFL there is an average of 133.6 Plays Per Game and I'm going to use a game I played vs Virix as an example (only game I have recorded and have the stats to use for comparions sake).

In my game vs Virix there were 65 plays, just under half of the NFL average so a realistic number in my game vs Virix would be about half the NFL Average.

Settings were: 7 minute quarters, 16 second runoff

    Final Score: 10-7 (I won)

** Big Plays are defined as Turnovers, Sacks, 20+ yard plays, or Touchdowns
** Big Play numbers don't add up on the chart because single plays aren't added twice
** FWIW, Virix had 2 plays of 19 yards and obviously weren't counted towards the 20+ yard plays

    • Average score of an NFL game is 29.0 to 17.8
    • Other NFL averages include 2.3 fumbles a game and 2 interceptions a game.

So as you see the majority of the numbers are right where they should be or are in a realistic range. As for the average score, if you cut the NFL average in half you get 14.5 to 8.9. We both missed a field goal in this game as well so our 10-7 final score wasn't too far off. Overall it was a below average scoring game. Would've been pretty much on par had both the missed FG's been good.

The drives for the game looked like:

    Vikings- Punt
    Browns- Punt
    Vikings- TD
    Browns- Punt
    Vikings- Missed FG
    Browns- INT
    Vikings- Halftime
    Browns- Missed FG
    Vikings- Punt
    Browns- TD
    Vikings- FG

    Game Over
