    [ALL] #GamerGate

    No thoughts on this here?

so apparently a girl developer fucked a reviewer for a good score all while being in another relationship

Sounds like the kind of perk reviewers signed up for

also apparently she wasn't that much of a looker according to various comments I've seen on Reddit and IGN posts

    ------------------

that was like 2 months ago so is there another gamersgate I have been clueless to these past few weeks or months
    RIP

I've been reading up on it on the rogan board. #notyourshield is the backlash against the gaming media reporting that all the people calling out the chick are just white nerd basement dwellers.

Well, my understanding of it is basically this:

Zoe Quinn released a game called Depression Quest. It isn't much a game, per se, but it was a creative venture on her part, and it eventually made it to Steam. This made a lot of people angry. Quinn also happens to be a feminist who was outspoken in the gaming community. Then some dude that she was with released the most douchie, "I'm a heartbroken emo kid" diary blog about how she cheated on him (the dude has since expressed nothing but guilt for doing this). One of the guys that she cheated on him with happened to play her game, and do a write up, albeit, not a review. This caused people to believe that she fucked people for positive spin on her game (which, again, was a pet project of hers and never sold really anything of note, to my knowledge). The backlash toward Quinn by people that were claiming to be gamers and for proper journalism (rape threats, death threats, rape and then murder threats) caused a lot of the gaming community, journalists included, to rally behind Quinn. Insults were slung by both crowds, and my understanding is that even those labeled SJWs (social justice warriors) were guilty at times of slinging insults at gamers that were questioning why anyone would defend Quinn. You had both sides with their poor arguments drowning out the good arguments. Somewhere in all of that, my understanding is the gamergate began, where some people decided that they were going to "take back" gaming. That's about as far as I know, as I ran out of energy after that.

Personally, my opinion is that Zoe Quinn didn't do anything wrong, her attractiveness shouldn't matter, no one should be threatening to rape someone, games journalism is as much of a joke as movie or book journalism, and probably no one should be calling each other white nerd basement dwellers. Also, no one needs to take games back. Last I checked, there hasn't been, nor will there ever be, a short supply of games focused on the interests of young men.

EDIT - I should add that a lot of my understanding of this situation post the Quinn part has been through bits and pieces here and there, so I apologize if I miss the overall message of the movement.

Am I confusing this but didnt this branch off into a retardo argument about female images in gaming by that idiot Sarkeesian ?
IIRC the stuff about Zoe cheating was substantiated by at least one other and she definitely is guilty of being a reprehensible person to date. The slut shaming brought in a whole bunch of weird tangential topics and groups which is when I stopped reading pieces on it.
Intel pulling out advertising to at least one site was a headline this week.

There were more than one? Wow, what a class act.

It sounds like this is the equivalent of the VSN Villain nonsense.

Please tell me that the emo baby bitch took back this sloot after a two week "break" too?

Seth's recollection is inaccurate. Quin did sleep with reviewers to get good reviews. Her ex posted the chat between them that confirmed it. When gamers got pissed about it several game media sites released articles the same day shitting on gamers which many suspected game journalists were colluding with each other to drive content, and push agendas. Obviously that's an ethical breach in a multi billion dollar industry, which was later confirmed. Intel then said dueces to gamasutra who has the cuntiest SJW idiot on staff.

There is a mailing list with a bunch of games journalists colluding which was released. Instead of owning up to that they cried mysogony and racism. The #notyourshield started by a black guy and joined by a bunch of women basically calling them out on their bullshit.

Not that I would be surprised but if what you're saying is true than the wiki on this situation is way off. It seems to completely coincide with Seth's recollection.

That isn't surprising. A lot of it is on breitbert.
