    [ALL] My PS4 Problem

Some of you may have seen my complaints about my PS4 in other threads. My console refused to stay in rest mode, randomly "waking up" to spit out discs. This was annoying because I would have to shut it down all the time or restart it in safe mode when it would stop accepting discs. This is all still happening despite the updates that were supposed to help fix this problem.

I finally called Sony Support and they told me to back up my data and initialize the system and if this didn't work I would have to send it in. This took several hours. When I set up my initialized PS4 and downloaded all the current console updates I was upset to find that not only did this not fix my rest mode problem, it actually made things worse. My system is now spitting out discs randomly while I'm playing games withy original problem of "waking up" from sleep mode to spit out discs. It also won't take discs after doing this, "dry ejecting" every 5s or so.

I looked up my problem on various forums and tried their fixes with no real success.

I guess what I am looking for is any advice from people that have dealt with any of these issues or sending in a system to Sony for service. I know the fee is steep at $150 plus shipping. I am thinking about trading my console in at best buy for $275 and either buying a new bundle right away or waiting until a price drop which will likely be in the near future. Either way I'll save money and get a fresh year warranty.

    Thanks.

Sounds like the trade would benefit you cost-wise, and you never know what might happen to your system even after they fix it. So long as you've researched online and tried the fixes that have worked for other people, then go that route.

$150 for a repair?!? Fuck you Sony! That's a fucking rip off. I love how these companies price these repairs at just the point where it basically makes more sense just to buy a new one. Funny how that works. And of course it's just out of the one year warranty. That's bullshit.

This happened to me last night. I actually went to this thread first to see if you maybe found a resolution and got nervous when I saw you hadn't.

I found some directions online that told me to turn the playstation off by holding the power button and then unplugging it for three minutes.

I haven't had an issue since, but I'm nervous it will crop back up. This is actually the first playstation I've ever owned so hopefully it's not getting ready to go to shit on me already.

So my shit bricked last night.. no lights or beeps when I go to turn it on.

I bought it at Best Buy in like February but lost the receipt so I'm hoping Sony can backtrace that shit.

If not, what a fucking shit product.

That sounds like what happened to my original. I had it for two weeks I think? Launch unit from Amazon. It just wouldn't turn on. Sent it back to Sony and they replaced it. The sent me a box overnighted to ship it. Pain in the ass though. It was like the 360 launch all over again for me. I had my first 360 for two weeks before it just wouldn't turn on. But a year later I think I was on my third 360? *knocks on wood* I'm still only on my second PS4.

Yeah I did the same thing and thought I was in the clear. Then it came back. I tolerated it for months until a couple weeks ago when I called Sony. They told me to initialize it and if that didn't work I would have to send it in. Like I noted above it just made it worse. I ended up selling it and buying the white destiny bundle. Took about a $125 loss but better than paying $150 plus shipping to send it in out of warranty. Plus I get I brand new warranty.

                MORE ISSUES!

Am I really in the minority here with this same issue? I came home after being out for a few hours tonight to find my PS4 completely shut down after leaving it in rest mode. My game disc remained in the machine however, leading me to believe there is still hope.

What should I do? Should I return the system and swap it out? This shouldn't be normal..

I've tried the solutions posted in the Sony forums with no luck. On to my third PS4 I guess.

It makes me wonder if it's something that needs to be patched, but if you guys aren't having these issues why am I? I understand it's a very little thing but if I'm spending $400 on this thing I feel it should be bug free.

Just happened again to me last night.

If this continues, and I lose patience as well, do I need to make sure I have a receipt when I call Sony and ask for help? Whenever I had issues with my 360, the process with Microsoft wasn't all that difficult, just annoying.

I understand that there's a warranty on the product for a year from the date of purchase.

I'm not sure about needing the receipt. I would think it would be a year after it is registered which happens when you sign in with it for the first time I think.

I've been researching online and found someone who is convinced this is a power outage failure. He wrote that after buying a UPS or battery backup this problem stopped. This would make sense except for that fact that my Xbone never has any issues staying in standby mode.

I haven't gotten around to boxing up PS4 #2 yet and taking it to best buy to swap it out yet but when I do I will keep you all informed. Hopefully third times the charm.
