We had this thread at the PSM forums years ago and nobody could really put that finger on it.
Master Chief/Halo could easily be considered the mascot for Microsoft.
Mario is obviously the mascot for Nintendo.
But who the hell is the mascot for Sony?
It has to be a character/game that's only been on the Playstation and no other rival companies.
Here's my Initial thoughts
Laura Craft
Ratchet and Clank
Crash Bandicoot
Then I thought about Snake, but then I remembered MGS's little venture over to the gamecube so it's out of the question. Same with the Final Fantasy series.
Going back to what I said earlier, everyone knows that Microsoft will never let Halo go and Nintendo will never let Mario go, I thought the same for the Metal Gear Series but I suppose not. Does Sony have any games/characters that it wouldn't let go?
I then thought about someone like Kratos from God of War but I don't know if he could really be considered the mascot for 2 important reasons.
1. God of War was released late in the life of the PS2
2. God of War is a very mature game so placing Kratos as the Mascot may not be right. Yes Halo is Mature, but nothing to the effect of God of War like sex scenes and all of that.
And then going back to the Ratchet and Clank thing, it wasn't realeased until the PS2 so could it rightfully be called the mascot when it wasn't even on the first system?
I just googled it and they said something about some A.I. named AIDO being their mascot. Fuck that I want a real one from a game.
Any Thoughts?
P.S.-Yes I do realize the full history of the MGS and FinalFantasy series, no need coming in tryin to tell me that they didn't start on the Playstation and all of that stuff......
