I'd throw out the distinction of this game being like Fallout 3 but... but... this game just feels more fun.

Got to Level 5 with my Soldier build just putting my foot in some raider/thug/skagg ass.

I also find it funny that these random mutated dog-demon things are carrying around gun clips and money like it was regular... makes me think of these things being used to transport shit across the wastes before they got pissed and ate people.

Are you sure your not using a weapon with elemental damage that the enemy is immune to?

Or trying to shoot those bugs with all the armor in the front?

I beat my first playthrough last night. I finished as a lvl 36 soldier and I think I was a little over powered. When I started the second playthrough it was basically 1 shot kills.

Hell yeah. It's great for co-op but not so much for single player. I'm starting to focus on my Turret now.

Can someone give me some quick impressions of this game? I was planning on picking it up tomorrow but I want to hear something first. It's not feasible to read through this whole thread.

I definitely enjoy my FPS's and I'm not a fan of typical RPG's. I never liked Oblivion and I had no interest in Mass Effect or Fallout 3 just to give you an idea of what my tastes are.

It's a FPS game with some RPG elements, like leveling up, a few skill point choices, and the questing aspect. It's a shooter before anything else though, rest assured, there is nothing but action, action, action. The only thing I can think of that you might not like is that you do level your proficiency with weapons, which increases damage and (I think? mike can confirm/deny) your accuracy with them. However, for the most part, if you have an enemy in your sights, you are going to hit them.

It's not like Fallout 3. People got that impression from the local the game is set in. This game is much closer to something like Halo or Call of Duty (albeit in a different setting) than it is Fallout or Oblivion. It's a stretch to call it an RPG, it's an action game.

For what it's worth, I haven't seen a single person say they didn't at least like it, and most people I've talked to really love it. You will like it. I said this earlier in the thread, and I'll say it again, and I really mean this, it's the most addicting/best game I've played this year.

About to wrap up playthrough 2. Had a party lastnight just gunning through the main storyline quests and leaving the sidequests alone.

One of the lvl 50's in our party who beat playthrough 2 already said that there isn't a "playthrough 3" but once you beat playthrough 2, all the enemies in the world have their levels adjusted to 48-50 and nothing but lvl 48-50 weapons drop.

                  I think I'm lvl 47 now.

Sweet. So there isn't any of that "roll the dice" shooting like in Fallout or Mass Effect?

I actually like the leveling up and quest sort of stuff from RPG's. But I
m really not into magic spells and shit like that. Does this game incorporate a lot of that stuff?

                      no roll the dice bullshit.

you shoot motherfuckers. if you get headshots you crit.
if you shoot skags when they open their mouths, you crit.
if you shoot bugs in their weak stringer parts, you crit.

You level up and put in skill points and do missions. That's as far as the RPG aspect of the game goes.

and shoot shit/blow shit up/find weapons

No magic either, at all. The closest any of the playable toons have to a magic spell is the Siren bitch and her Phasewalk thing.

How did I miss this thread?

Game is bad ass, I've been playing a Siren, currently at level 26.

Critical hit. Different weapons/skills can alter how much you crit for.

Let's say your normal shots from a smg do 20 dmg. Let's say your fighting a bandit, a human.

Headshots do more damage, or will earn you a critical hit.

Basically, crits don't come by chance/odds (rolling the dice). They are a function of your accuracy.

Gotcha. I'm out of the loop with RPG terminology.
