Is getting a submission random or is there something to it?

In my experience, you have to have like 70+ sub rating, have them super tired, and work the shit out of the stick

the more tired they are, the better. I've subbed decent fighters (Marcus Davis comes to mind) with a 66 sub off CAF after tiring him out for 3 rounds. My strategy for subs is this, ware them down as much as you can, ether on the feet or with GnP. Eventually, get the mount. Especially on higher difficulty levels, the CPU fighter will immediately try to transition out of the mount and give up their back, prevent this and hit em in the mouth, rinse, repeat until they are gassed, rocked, or even better, both. As soon as this happens, go for the sub and twirl that stick like your life depends on it.

It helps to have beat them up for q while, reducing their max stamina as low as possible. I actually managed to sub BJ Penn after wailing on his body the whole fight. In my experience, it also helps to attempt subs from higher up on the "ground pyramid" but that could be total coincidence.

If it takes so much work, how the hell do these guys in online fights sub me within two-three minutes?

I've actually gotten subs within the first minute. All it takes is for the opponent to blow their wad trying to strike and/or transition and I slap that sub and I get it damn near every time. You have to beware at times beause some guys do have turbo controllers.

Or they use the CAF cheats and have like a 110 sub rating

So, metaphorically speaking, our physiology basically has the universe mapped out and you're thinking it needs to be taught addition & subtraction.

People sub you so easily online because its a lot easier to get subs against human opponents. For one thing, human players, especially those newer to the game, are more likely to gas themselves going for the big KO. Plus, for whatever reason, the games programming reasons that cpu players twirl their e-stick at a bazillion rpm. For whatever reason, its just a lot harder to sub the cpu than a human player in my experience.

It's dead as fuck online and the guys that still are on play the exact same way. Boring.

After some downtime, I can't believe how much I loved this game. Repetitive as fuck.
