after over a week of playing this game i am officially retired. I will be trading in this shit bag game for something and take a $30 hit in the process.
The game has some good aspects, but the bad out weigh the good. The biggest issues for me is the training modes and te lack of face buttons. Sure i can play with the analog stick, but its more of a chore then fun.
Online is a total joke, so i have to turn to legecy mode. There you get to deal with atrocious menu navigation and the annoying emails that are totally worthless. An awards system that is broke and the frustrating and ever so annoying training modes. When i started playing this game i thought they were fun. Then i realized they were stupid and no real meaning in the world of boxing. All that would have been fine if they actually worked properly. You success isnt based on your skills at beating these mini games, its based on random CPU programming that helps determine the outcome. Or the clunky in accurate controls
my post here is for anyone thinking of buying the game.....if you plan to play online, make sure its against friends. If you plan on playing legecy, prepare for a frustrating game mode. If you just plan on doing the play now option against friends or the cpu, then you might be ok.......

Following calls from fans critical of Fight Night Round 4's current control options, EA is bringing a free alternative — and some other new content before that.
EA Sports announced two upcoming free releases of downloadable content for Fight Night Round 4 today. The first, slated for early August, will add a new gym, "new gameplay sliders" and new equipment plus an alternate version of Sugar Ray Leonard exclusive to the Xbox 360 version.
An early September release may be even more well-received as it will offer face-button control for all of Fight Night's punched. That update, for PS3 and Xbox 360 will be free.
The announcements follow the June 23 release of Fight Night Round 4, which won praise for its graphics and gameplay but took knocks — see comments here — for forcing players to only use the tilts and arcs of a controllers' right stick to throw punches and not offer a button-press option, as had been made available for Fight Night Round 3. (A DLC option was recently rumored.)
"We strongly believe that the refined Total Punch Control is the most intuitive way to throw punches in Fight Night Round 4," the game's senior producer, Dean Richards, said in a press release, "But we also want fans of the franchise to have an option."
EA sent Kotaku further information about the "new gameplay sliders" being offered in August. Those sliders will allow gamers to "tun and tweak the following attributes: Counter Punch Window, Boxer Stamina, Punch Accuracy."
Looks like EA is addressing much of the feedback from gamers. And promptly.Comment

(free) DLC with buttons coming in September. More arenas, sliders, equipment and fighter coming August (probably not so free)Comment

Here we go again(Started a new legacy). I'm getting to the top fighters in my weight class, and I'm vastly inferior to them. I'll be close in Overall ratings, but nowhere near these guys at 80+ in certain areas. How can I compete with someone who has punch power on another level from me?
I did better with my training, but there were stretches where my fights only allowed 1 training session. One of my fights I didn't even get to train for because it was a challenge fight that I probably shouldn't have accepted, but it said the guy wanted to fight me bad, which I couldn't resist. He was a top 20 ranked fighter that really helped my rank, but I suffer because I don't progress my rating through it.
I think progression is my biggest gripe with legacy. I hear a lot of people say its too easy to progress but I just haven't seen it.Comment

well i broke it back out, interestingly I am not able to get Championship on all traning games (except stay on feet which i don't even do anymore because you don't have to if you get good scores on all the others)
funny thing about spam punchers, i played against my 8 year old yesterday and that was all he did was just jab jab jab, however just fought fire with fire and knocked him out.
I honestly don't like Legacy mode, once you get to 51 fights and are G.O.A.T there is nothing more to work for, I loved on Round 2 how you could go up or down in weight as much as you wanted but paid for it with training, here once you go up that is it. I really don't like that.
also any word on a patch, i hate that i have to be disconnected in order for the game not to freeze, and oh by the way, it still does just not as muchComment

Did you end up fighting the same guys over and over at some point? Right now the 3 fighter ranked ahead of me are just a little too high for me to fight. So I'm going back and fighting guys who are at my level but still ranked fairly close to me. Guess I'll have to keep doing this to prepare my fighter for those higher rated guys.Last edited by Tengo Juego; 07-07-2009, 08:05 PM.Comment
