I will say after the first little hiccup I had with just dieing quickly I'm really enjoying this game. I also like how I'm not relying on VATS as much since it seems to be so uneffective its better to just shoot away on your own.
I had the same thing when I played. The difficulty in it is odd. The beginning is REALLY hard and SUPER easy to bite it without warning, which made for some frustrating situations when I didn't save every 2 seconds. It definitely evens out and even by the end is borderline joke-level easy. I just mowed down people at the end of it.

Hopefully Bethesda finds a nice balance in Skyrim between letting the game challenge you enough and still making it feel like you are more powerful than when you started. Both Fallouts were not very good at this.

If its still 20 bucks you'd be an idiot to pass it up.

I will say I'm having a good time playing this. Today is the first day since I started that I've played another game for more than 30 minutes.

Should have got it when it was $10 (or $15 if you want it on PC).

Maybe. I'm not going to have any problems waiting for the version bundled with all of the DLC that will inevitably hit store shelves. Too many games to play in the mean time...

Only problem with that is I don't know if they're allowed to make a "Game of the Year" version thanks to the initial buggy mess.

edit: nvm I wonder who actually gave it GOTY.
A GotY edition of New Vegas has cropped up on Amazon's UK site. Release details are scarce, but the low price point cou…

It's better in a lot of ways (probably because it's by a lot of the original FO creators) but it is also maddening in a lot of ways. Either way, neither 3 nor NV will ever touch the awesomeness of Fallout 1 and 2.

I'm at level 9 now and still am finding some enemies tough to deal with. I tried going through the death claw mission for the miners and got owned lol.

I do find it odd that in this game I don't feel like I have a home or a go to place like I did in FO3 with megaton. It feels more linear in the sense to that I am getting pulled along the story line and the side quests pop in just to give you something to do for an hour.

cant disagree or agree on that last statement cause i never played those. But i loved everything about FO3. NV was a copy of 3 with a terrible dull story and a shitload of bugs. i finished it, but couldnt wait to get it over with.

FO3 is one of my top 5 all time. probably cause it opened the door to RPG for me...and because it was such an enjoyable game

i rented Fallout 3 based on the fact you said you loved it and you werent a RPG fan, it was my first RPG type game and i loved it as well. Fallout New Vegas was a buggy mess but its still better than most games out there.

Definitely disagree with you, but just on preference (and it being what got you into RPGs would be a huge boon I think, and I can understand, it's why I still love old RPGs that are now not nearly as fun). Also, I had WAY more bugs with FO3, personally, but bugs are a weird thing in that they are so random. I never had a single bug with FO:NV believe it or not (360 version). Yet I hear of these insane gamebreakers.

Also, I thought that NV's story was not great, but it's sidequest, dialogue and usage of secondary skills (speech, for example) to be MUCH better than FO3. And to be honest, I thought that FO3's story was pretty adequate.

I enjoyed FO:NV, personally and actually found it less buggy than FO3. That being said, I liked the atmosphere of 3 better, but both got ridiculously easy towards the end. Once I got Harkness' plasma rifle in 3 and combined that with reapers sprint, I could wipe out whole civilizations without breaking a sweat. In NV, it was a silenced sniper rifle. I could pretty much 1HK anything and everything with headshots and never alert anyone in the surrounding area. Hell, I took out caesar and all his guys and the only part that was challenging was his praetorian guard

Deathclaws are an absolute pain in the ass in this game. I'm at level 20 right now, and if I didn't have two companions at my side, I'm sure those bastards would still rip me a new asshole. So much so that I still haven't cleared out the mining site...
