Reviewing Purdue's great Running Back Success and Purdue's Award Semifinalists

Well, what can you say about these Boilers? A team not expected to even make a bowl, currently sitting at 9-2, leading the Big Ten Conference with a 7-0 record. A team with an unproven Senior quarterback, and an average receiving core. But the biggest reason this Purdue team is having all this success is their running game.

If I told you that Purdue would be led by It's starting and backup running backs to a 9-2 record with a game left, would you believe me? Well, it's true. Jaycen Taylor, the starting senior running back, and Ralph Bolden, the somphomore back running back, have been monsters this season. Lets first look at Jaycen Taylor's season.

Jaycen Taylor has sure had his fair share of touchdown celebrations this season.

Jaycen Taylor is currently 4th in the Heismen Race, 2nd in the Maxwell, and 1st in Walker. Reason why? Because in only 234 rushing attempts, he has 1160 yards, a 4.9 average carry, with 14 touchdowns. The thing that is remarkable about those stats, he has missed 11 quarters of playing time throughout this season due to injuries.

Oh, and lets not forgot that Jaycen leads the Boilers in receptions and receiving yards. On 40 receptions, he has 510 yards, a 12.7 average catch, with another 4 touchdowns. He also has 486 yards after the catch. Not to shabby for a running back.

Now lets take a look at Ralph Bolden.

When your tied for 11th in touchdowns in the whole NCAA, as a backup, you know your having a good season. And sophomore running back Ralph Bolden is sure having a good season.

The 5'10, 185 pound running back has been used in situations you'd probably doubt he should be. He's been as a goal line running back more often then a normal running back. On 62 rushes this season, he has 388 yards, a 6.3 average. He has 10 touchdowns, and a 75 yard touchdown run. Ralph was considered to be red shirted this season, thankfully that didn't happen. As Purdue is not heavily recruiting an above average running back, and Bolden is a somphomore, he is expected to start next season at the running back position.

Lets now look at some Purdue players in position to win an award.

As we already told you, Jaycen Taylor is currently second in the Maxwell, and first in the Walker, but there are other Purdue players that are in award races as well.

Ryan Kerrigan, junior Left End, is having quite the season for the Boilers. He is currently 12th in the Bednarik, and 6th in the Lombardi. Here are his season stats.

Torri Williams has had a great season returning kicks for Purdue, he is currently 10th in Best Returner. Here are his stats:

Nice writing. The running is just dominate. Its funny because your taking a different approach to winning then the throw happy Boilers and it is working. Keep it up!
Thanks dude, writing isn't my strong point, but I thought that I did pretty good with that one.

I just looked at my running backs, and decided to be more run friendly for this season and it worked really well. Also I can pass if the running game isn't going, so it's a win-win.
