Purdue Boasts Secondary With Commit of #1 FS, Third Best Player in Country

Purdue kept taking steps into becoming a National Powerhouse with the signing of John Hawkins. Hawkins was listed as the #1 Free Safety in the country, along with the 3rd best recruit in the nation. He didn't even need a visit, he said he made his decision after watching Purdue beat Illinois

"Just watching them play with all that emotion, all that heart, just made me want to be there. They are known as a defensive team, and I want to be part of the tradition. Hopefully I can get some playing time next to Mark Chase."

Hawkins sure has the skills to be a starter for Purdue as a true Freshman, like Chase did. Standing at 6'5, 216 pounds, he was able to run a 4.46 in the 40 yard dash, bench 432 pounds, and squat 395 pounds. His awareness seems to be his only downside, as he tackles everything and anything in sight, and is a ball hawk in zone coverage. He also played wide receiver in high school so his hands are top notch. Do not even get me started about big hits. Hawkins should be a great player for years to come.
