^^^QFT. I agree completely. You should wait till the end of the season to make any dramatic changes. Adds to the realism of it all.Maddon & Friedman: Pissing off the AL East since 2008

Honestly, I have a strong idea of which direction I want to go but I don't want get my heart set in one direction, especially considering that we don't know how free agency is going to go.
I think it is pretty easy to identify my needs going into the off-season though: WR, RB, OG, pass rushers, and a DB. I could also use an upgrade at back-up QB.
I haven't really reported this because it has been pretty minor, but Carson Palmer leaves the game at least once every single game with a small injury. He usually comes back within a couple of plays though.
I plan to spend a good bit of time reporting on the off-season, especially my first one. That's really my favorite time of the year.Comment

I've never gone through a season as quick as I did this one. In fact, I debated before I got the game on if I even wanted to play year 1. In the end, I decided I wanted to experience a bad year with bad personnel.Comment

Well there is no "almost" here. I am blatantly doing it haha In the meantime though, I definitely have motivation in mind to try to win a game before the end of the year.

But fast enough - and that's okay, offseason is by far the most exciting time in any franchise. I think there are those who love franchise for that very reason - ultra SIM so to speak.
I like your line of thinking, accept the personnel who are currently on the team and build up from there. Similar to what Todd Haley (Chiefs fan reference) approaches with "The best guys on the field will play" mentality.
Looking forward to the updates, thinkin if you go down to the Lions - you might have to start scouting big time for that #1 pick of da draft :PComment

Well, not as fast as B-Dawg used to do when he would have seasons done and then come back to report them, remember?

- I think it is important from both a realism factor and from a fun factor to not change the team entirely. It is important for me as a player and for my readers to somewhat relate to the team that is being used. The moment you "blow a team up," is the moment your team loses it's identity.
I think it is good to keep some level of continuity between your Madden team and their real life counterparts while at the same time making subtle changes and building mostly through the draft.
As for the draft, I think I am all but assured the first pick. I have a comfortable 3 game "lead" in that regard. Unless my team all of a sudden catches fire, we will be picking first (or at least owning the first selection).Comment

Game 12, Year 1: Detroit Lions (5-6) at Cincinnati Bengals (0-11)
17 -- 6-6
14 -- 0-12
Bengals FB Jacob Hester is unable to secure the football before being clobbered by Lions OLB Darnell Bing, causing him to fumble the football. Detroit rookie S Louis Delmas would scoop the ball up and take it 39 yards for a game-tying touchdown with just under six minutes to go in the game.
PANIC TIME
Bengals let another fourth quarter lead slip away, fall to Lions 17-14 in rain-soaked defensive struggle | FB Hester's late fumble costs Cincinnati chance to win first game of '09 | With just four games remaining, 0-16 looking like a strong possibility
The Cincinnati Bengals, whose playoff hopes were dashed long ago, are now on the brink of becoming just the third team in NFL history to go winless and just the second to go 0-16. On Sunday they hosted the last team to go winless, the Detroit Lions, and fell 17-14 amid a host of errors.
With the Bengals up 14-7 with just under six minutes remaining, Lions OLB Darnell Bing forced Bengals FB Jacob Hester to fumble the football and S Louis Delmas recovered and returned it 39 yards for a touchdown to tie the game at 14-14.
After forcing a Cincinnati three and out, the Lions got the ball back and the league's 32nd ranked offense drove 72 yards on 10 plays on a drive that culminated with a 39-yard field goal by PK Jason Hanson to give the Lions a 17-14 lead with just 0:55 remaining.
Cincinnati would get the football back for one last desperation attempt to secure their first win of the season. The team had just over 50 seconds to either score a touchdown for the win or to try to tie the game with a field goal by Shayne Graham, who had missed earlier on a 40-yard attempt on the opening possession of the second half. However on first down from their own 25-yard line, QB Carson Palmer's bomb to WR Chad Ochocinco down the sideline was picked off by Lions CB Anthony Henry to put the game away.
"I am sick after this game," said a distraught Ochocinco, who had to fight to hold back tears.
"No team should have to go through this. I feel like we are cursed."
Cincinnati has four more opportunities to secure a win in order to avoid the shameful winless tag. Next up, a road game against Minnesota (7-5), who coincidentally is holding onto a one game lead in the division over Detroit (6-6). The Vikings will be without several starters for the game: QB Brett Favre (torn shoulder muscle), QB Tavaris Jackson (broken hand) CB Antoine Winfield (arm fracture), DT Pat Williams (Partial ACL Tear), TE Visanthe Shiancoe (torn hamstring), and WR Bernard Berrian (torn Achilles).
Injury Note: Bengals rookie RB Bernard Scott, who had 95 all-purpose yards during Sunday's contest and has 1,263 all-purpose yards on the season, left the game with an abdominal tear in the second half. The injury is expected to sideline him for up to three weeks. The team is expected to sign a running back during the week to take Scott's place during his absence.

I say keep your sliders the same. If you change them and make it easier, who knows if it was your offseason moves or the slider change that turned things around for your team. To feel more legit, keep your sliders the same for future seasons. This last game was close, so it's not like you're always getting your ass handed to you.
...then again, it was Detroit, haha.Comment

You came really close there. Almost feels like it was taken from you. With the Vikings so banged up, you have a shot to get the "W."
Good luck man!Maddon & Friedman: Pissing off the AL East since 2008
