The running game was nothing to write home about. Looks like Spiller and Scott struggled. Harrison wasn't bad though. Spiller definitely made his mark catching the ball though. I guess he may be like a Faulk-clone.

Any news on the injury to Mays? Also, how are you subbing to get players reps? I have finally just decided to do formation subs. Seems like it is the only way to have a true platoon system.
Mays will be good to go for next game. It would just a shoulder strain.

For the preseason games, I am just going through the Depth Chart. I took Carson out after about a quarter and Jordan played pretty much the rest of the way with Sullivan getting some mop up action.

Next game, I will give J.T. his shot.

Come regular season, I will mostly utlize the "packages" they already have in place. The thing I don't like about the formation subs feature currently in the game is that all of the changes are permanent and there is no way to reset them.

Sorry, I misspoke. I meant the packages. I also use the packages from the play-calling screen like "HB spell" and "WR Swap" etc.

I do the same with pre-season though. I go into my depth chart and make sure starters don't come back in etc.

Yea...I wish we could make some of our own packages. The options we have are pretty limited, especially on defense.

I want to use more defensive packages, in particular up front on the line.

I guess the production wasn't matching his fairly large contract in the CPU's eyes.

Preseason Game 2, Year 2: New Orleans Saints at Cincinnati Bengals

Note: The following is a brief summary of the Bengals' August 19, 2010 preseason game vs New Orleans. Normal full-scale reporting will be reinstituted at the start of the 2010 regular season.

                34 -- 1-1
                31 -- 0-2 F/OT

Summary: The Cincinnati defense had problems stopping the run as they watched Saints RB Reggie Bush race for 229 yards and three touchdowns on the way to leading the Saints to a 34-31 overtime win at Paul Brown Stadium. Bush scored on runs of 72 yards in the first quarter & runs of 71 and 64 in the fourth quarter.

QB J.T. O'Sullivan's interception thrown to Saints CB Jabari Greer on the first possession of overtime set up the Saints in position to kick the game-winning field goal from 22 yards away by PK Connor Barth. O'Sullivan, involved in a heated battle with fellow QB Jordan Palmer for the team's back-up quarterback position, finished the game with 214 passing yards but his two interceptions proved costly as the Saints scored 10 points off the turnovers.

The Bengals' starters played solidly throughout the first half and took a 17-10 lead going into halftime. Led by QB Carson Palmer's 15 of 20 passing for 147 yards and one touchdown, the team's starters looked extremely comfortable in the new offensive system being implemented by head coach Mike Martz.

Two Martz disciples, Shaun McDonald and Mike Furrey, each led the team with six receptions on the day and WR Chad Ochocinco got into the act with a 15-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. RB Bernard Scott led the team in rushing with 29 yards on 7 carries. RB C.J. Spiller's 19-yard fourth quarter touchdown tied the game at 31-31 and was the only bright spot during a poor outing by the rookie from Clemson, who finished with just 27 yards on 10 carries.

The Bengals (0-2) will travel to Minnesota (0-2) next week for preseason game #3.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that several Bengals players who are on the bubble have possibly one last chance to impress Bengals GM D.Geezy and head coach Mike Martz during tonight's game against Minnestoa. Cincinnati must cut their roster down from 55 to 52 following tonight's third preseason contest before dropping down to 48 after the following week's game.

Preseason Game 3, Year 2: Cincinnati Bengals at Minnesota Vikings

Note: The following is a brief summary of the Bengals' August 29, 2010 preseason game at Minnesota. Normal full-scale reporting will be reinstituted at the start of the 2010 regular season.

                    31 -- 0-3
                    34 -- 1-2

Summary: Vikings QB John David Booty completed a 1-yard touchdown pass to WR Bobby Wade with 0:39 remaining to send Cincinnati to 0-3 in the exibition season. The Bengals' defense was shredded to the tune of 397 yards on the day.

Cincinnati's offense looked better than ever however amassing 478 yards during the game. The team was led by QB Carson Palmer, who finished the day 26 of 36 for 317 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got impressive rushing performances from C.J. Spiller (11 car 43 yds 1 td) and Bernard Scott (6 car 70 yds). Spiller scored on a 31-yard second quarter touchdown to give the Bengals a 14-7 lead.

The wide receiver duo of Shaun McDonald and Chad Ochocinco looked to be in perfect harmony as the two combined for 17 receptions, 271 yards and two touchdowns on the day. Ochocinco's 1-yard first quarter touchdown reception tied the game at 7-7. Shaun McDonald scored on a 54-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter which made the score 24-21 Minnesota early in the period.

The Bengals are now faced with tough decisions as they must now pare their roster down to 52 players. The team will have to release 3 players by 3:00pm tomorrow.

Cincinnati will travel to Tennessee next week to play in what will be the final tune-up before the 2010 regular season.

Maybe if you go 0-4 in the preseason you'll go 16-0 in the regular season! ;)

Yeah I have been pretty satisfied with the results I am getting so far. We need to figure out how to close out games come regular season though.

Quarterback play, as a whole, seems much better thus far. I would say that it appears that Jordan Palmer is in the lead for the backup job as well.

Looks like the running game got off the schnide against the Vikings. Spiller and Scott both put up decent numbers. Jerome Harrison has struggled a bit, have you figured out what you are going to do with the running back rotation?

McDonald and Furrey look like they could be weapons as the 3rd and 4th receivers. London has been relatively quiet, but, I see him breaking out this year.

Looking forward to the preseason finale!

I have a good idea of who it may be.

The playbook I am using to emulate Mike Martz's playbook is the Saints'. I think using that playbook has about 80% to do with the improved play at QB. That and more experience. I have also been doing practice mode lately which has really helped as well.

The running back rotation is still up in the air. It's looking more and more like we're going to be doing a running back by committee approach though. Bernard Scott, despite being the lowest rated of the 3 backs, seems to be the best runner though.

It's been just like old times with Martz, McDonald, and Furrey. McDonald has clearly won the starting job but I think I am going to keep him in his #3/slot role. He looks like T.J. Houshmandzadeh out there.
