Game 11, Year 3: Cincinnati Bengals at Seattle Seahawks

    29 -- 8-3
    14 -- 4-7

Bengals QB Carson Palmer's 16-yard touchdown pass to WR Kevin Curtis started off the day's scoring, giving Cincinnati a 7-0 first quarter lead that they would never give up. Palmer finished the game 26 of 33 for 229 yards and two touchdowns while Curtis finished with 5 receptions for 47 yards.

PALMER, BENGALS OUTLAST SEAHAWKS IN 29-14 VICTORY

Signal caller tosses two touchdowns to lead Cincinnati to their 8th win in last 9 games | RB Spiller accounts for 113 all-purpose yards in another solid outing | Team set to take on QB Tim Tebow for the first time next week

The Cincinnati Bengals won their fourth consecutive game Sunday, defeating the Seattle Seahawks 29-14 at Qwest Field. Bengals QB Carson Palmer's 229 passing yards and two touchdowns paced Cincinnati as they continued their impressive 2011 campaign. Palmer's 10-yard touchdown pass to WR Chad Ochocinco with 8:54 remaining made the score 26-14, all but ending Seattle's comeback hopes.

Cincinnati struck first in the game as Palmer found WR Kevin Curtis for a 16-yard first quarter touchdown giving the Bengals a 7-0 lead.

The team would never trail in the contest and a 16-point fourth quarter sparked by a 17-yard touchdown run by back-up RB Bernard Scott was too much for Seattle (4-7) to overcome.

The Bengals (8-3) will host struggling Baltimore (3-8) next week at Paul Brown Stadium. It has been a rough year for the Ravens, who have been without starting QB Joe Flacco (herniated disk) and MLB Ray Lewis (fractured shoulder blade) for much of the season. QB Tim Tebow (77), a late first round draft pick from a year ago, has started in Flacco's absence and has mostly struggled tossing only 3 touchdowns and 7 interceptions through 6 games.

Four of the Bengals remaining five opponents have 3-8 records. Only the Rams (9-2), who the team will face in week 16 on Christmas Night, have a winning record.

Another solid victory. Looked like it was another game you never lost control of. Looking at the stats, it looks like Housmanzadeh and Bryant combined for a total of 5 catches and 66 yards. Not bad in shutting down the opposition's top two targets.

Spiller actually appeared to have a rather average day by his standards lol. Still, 113 all-purpose is nothing to sneeze at either. Looks like you have a relatively easy schedule down the stretch. Hopefully you can stay focused and not allow one of those teams to "steal" a victory from you.

Bengals | Ochocinco sends Ravens a gift
            Thu, Dec 1 2011 15:44:49 -0700
Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that according to his Twitter page, Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco sent a special gift package addressed to the Baltimore Ravens defense. The Pro Bowl wideout sent over 22 boxes of Kleenex along with 22 cartons of Bengay which arrived at Ravens headquarters Wednesday morning. "I just wanted to look out for them boys," said Ochocinco. "It's been a long season for them and I know I would be in tears if we were as awful as them with a 3-8 record." Asked about the Bengay, Ochocinco responded, "That defense of theirs is going to need it to recover from the hurt we're going to put on them Sunday. Ray Ray is lucky to be hurt and not be involved in this game."

Amazing that Spiller has progressed so well this season that an 80-yard rushing 30-yard receiving game is now considered "quiet" by his standards. Good stuff.

Yeah hopefully we can sustain this good play and not have any let downs. Baltimore is always scary because of their defense, with or without Ray Lewis.

I am anxious to play against Tebow.

Definitely a man playing like he is in his contract year. The guy is a TFL beast. He leads the league in that category with like 33 thus far. He is really doing well in the 3-4 and it looks like he'll be earning a big raise in the off-season.

Nice solid win against seattle. The offense really looks like it has found a nice balance. Good luck down the stretch. I'd love to see the Steelers drop another to give you some breathing room. Good luck!

Game 12, Year 3: Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals

                  49 -- 4-8
                  38 -- 8-4

Ravens RB Ray Rice stiff arms Bengals FS Taylor Mays on his way to a game-winning 50-yard touchdown that made the score 42-38 with just 2:20 remaining in the game.

RAVENS SCORE THREE TOUCHDOWNS IN FINAL 4:16 TO OUST BENGALS 49-38

RB Rice's big fourth quarter runs propel Baltimore to improbable victory | Bengals blow 38-27 lead with six minutes remaining, fall to 8-4 | Martz: Maybe some of us needed this | Steelers' 42-16 blowout loss to Colts keeps Cincy in first place

The Cincinnati Bengals lost a topsy-turvy battle to the Baltimore Ravens, falling 49-38 Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium. Ravens RB Ray Rice's 50-yard touchdown run with just over two minutes remaining gave Baltimore a 42-38 lead late. Following a Bengals' four and out & resulting turnover on downs, Rice put the final dagger in the Bengals, racing 36 yards for a touchdown to increase Baltimore's lead to 49-38 with under a minute to play. Rice finished the game with a season-high 141 rushing yards. It was quite a turn of events considering the Ravens deficit just minutes earlier.

Midway through the fourth quarter, the Bengals took the lead following RB C.J. Spiller's third touchdown of the game, a 2-yard run that made the score 31-27. A couple of possessions later, Bengals QB Carson Palmer found TE Chase Coffman for a 20-yard score that increased the Bengals' lead to 38-27 with just 6:01 left.

Just as they needed to, the Ravens struck quickly when QB Tim Tebow, subbing for an injured QB Joe Flacco who missed the game with a back injury, took over. Down by 11 and facing a 3rd and 15 from his own 25-yard line, Tebow found a streaking WR Steve Breaston for a 69-yard gain down the left sideline to give Baltimore a first down deep in Bengals territory. A couple of plays later, the former Florida Gator found TE Chris Baker for a 9-yard touchdown to cut the margin to 38-35 following a successful two-point conversion with 4:16 remaining.

Cincinnati, in position to possibly run out the clock by converting a few first downs, were forced to a three and out, setting the stage for Rice's heroics.

"Very disappointing that we could not move the football late in the game," said Bengals head coach Mike Martz.

"We gained 529 total offensive yards which is one of our best performances to date but we could not get 10 yards in crucial points in the game. Sure we can sit here and lay the blame on the defense but in my opinion, they should never have been put into position to have to fight to hold onto the lead. I've got to do a better job in that area and as a coach, it is on you whenever you blow an 11-point lead with less than five minutes to go in a game.

"This was a wake-up call and I hate to say it but maybe some of us needed this loss. It is important every week to not take any opponent lightly and to remain humble."

The Bengals (8-4) will travel to face Kansas City (4-8) next week at Arrowhead Stadium.

Thanks man. We certainly missed a big chance to gain some cushion. We're still in good shape though.

Yeah I still think we're in great shape. We missed a golden opportunity to get some seperation from the Steelers though. Should be an exciting finish.

Tough loss. Spiller still played amazingly. Hopefully you can bounce back this week against a weak Chiefs team.

Game 13, Year 3: Cincinnati Bengals at Kansas City Chiefs

                            17 -- 8-5
                            41 -- 5-8

Early in the fourth quarter, Bengals QB Carson Palmer threw an inexplicable pass attempt to RB C.J. Spiller on a wheel route despite tight coverage. Chiefs CB Donald Washington intercepted the errant throw and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown to make the score 31-17 in the Chiefs' favor.

                            ANOTHER COLLAPSE

Chiefs score 31 unanswered points en route to a 41-17 victory over suddenly reeling Cincinnati | QB Palmer's three fourth quarter interceptions doom Bengals | Cincinnati, Pittsburgh now tied for AFC North lead with three games remaining

Despite being in control for nearly a full three quarters, the Cincinnati Bengals allowed a late game scoring onslaught by the Kansas City Chiefs on their way to falling 41-17 Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. In a loss that was eerily similar to last week's loss to Baltimore in which they allowed 21 points in the last 4:16 en route to a 49-38 defeat, Cincinnati was unable to stop spiraling out of control late. QB Carson Palmer's four interceptions, including three in the fourth quarter alone, were too much for the Bengals to overcome.

His interception thrown to CB Donald Washington which was returned 27 yards for a touchdown provided the back-breaker for the Bengals, making the score 31-17 with 11:48 remaining. On the Bengals' previous possession, Palmer's interception thrown to SS Bernard Pollard set up Kansas City for the go-ahead touchdown.

Two of Palmer's four interceptions got returned for touchdowns, including one on the game's opening possession which was returned 81 yards for a touchdown by DT Keyunta Dawson. Palmer, who was hit as he threw on that particular play, finished just 20 of 43 for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions while posting a horrific 39.0 passer rating.

In Palmer's defense, two of his four interceptions were not entirely his fault. The aforementioned interception to Dawson was the result of extreme pressure causing Palmer to throw while being pounded to the turf by DE Tyson Jackson. The interception to Pollard was the result of a dropped/tipped pass by WR Michael Floyd on a deep post route.

In contrast, Chiefs QB Matt Cassel went 18 of 24 for 240 yards and three touchdowns. His 74-yard touchdown strike to WR Dwayne Bowe with just 0:05 remaining in the third quarter tied the game at 17-17, setting the stage for the Chiefs' fourth quarter scoring surge.

The Bengals (8-5) have now fallen into a tie for first place in the AFC North with Pittsburgh (8-5). The team will host Cleveland (4-9) next week at Paul Brown Stadium. Following the Browns, the team will face St. Louis (10-3) at home and rematch with Baltimore (5-8) on the road in week 17.

The Steelers on the other hand will be on the road for each of their remaining three contests, at San Diego, Arizona, and Cleveland.

"It is gut-check time," said Bengals head coach Mike Martz.

"This was another sloppy, meltdown finish for us and another poor outing from both sides of the ball. We counted 10 drops today by our wideouts and obviously the interceptions need to be cleaned up. Defensively we played piss poor as well. We have three games remaining and it is now time to put up or shut up."
