Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Bengals receivers Michael Floyd (76) and Jordy Nelson (77) will battle for the team's #2 receiver position behind WR Chad Ochocinco (89) during the preseason. Floyd was the team's second round pick in 2011 and Nelson signed a free agent contract with the club this past March.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Bengals receivers Shaun McDonald (67), Kevin Curtis (69), Jacoby Ford (62), and rookie Jeff Fuller (51) will compete during the preseason for the team's #4 receiver spot. The team is expected to keep only five receivers on its final roster so two of the foursome will likely not make the team. It is believed that Ford has an edge on all of the receivers due to his return abilities.

With preseason set to begin, I would like to take this time to remind readers of this franchise's Preseason Rules (Full franchise rules are on page 1):

            Preseason Player Transaction Rules

            - 55 man roster can be carried starting with the beginning of the free agency signing period and going into the start of the NFL preseason.

            - Must cut down to 47 players +1 Emergency Quarterback after preseason game #4

            - Free agents can be signed at will without penalty who are either a.) rated lower than the lowest rated player on the Bengals' active roster at their respective position at the end of the off-season free agent signing period or b.) were on the Bengals active roster at some point during the current season. Two days must be skipped at the start of following season's free agency period for every player that is signed that has the same or a higher rating than a player on the Bengals depth chart at their respective position at any point between the start of the preseason and the end of the current season's Pro Bowl.
            - All free agents signed during this time period must be signed to a one-year contract.

I know what you mean, but whenever I've started to control all 32 teams, I just say to heck with it because it's a pain in the butt. I let the chips fall where they may. I always tried to crank out as many seasons as possible in my enterprises, so I did things to expedite that like letting the CPU control the CPU teams, simming the preseason, etc.

Preseason Game 1, Year 4: Cincinnati Bengals at Miami Dolphins

Note: The following is a brief summary of the Bengals' August 11, 2012 preseason game versus Miami. Normal full-scale reporting will be reinstituted at the start of the 2012 regular season.

                  10 -- 0-1
                  15 -- 1-0

Summary: Miami RB Jahvid Best's 15-yard touchdown run with 1:02 remaining gave the Dolphins a 15-10 lead to win a defensive struggle over visiting Cincinnati. The Bengals, who led most of the second half 10-9, allowed Dolphins QB Pat White to convert a 4th and 10 play with less than 1:30 to go, a play that set up Best for his game-winning score.

Cincinnati got an impressive performance out of rookie second round draft pick Stephfon Green, who finished with 157 all-purpose yards (15 rushing, 83 receiving, 35 on punt returns, 24 on kickoff returns). His 26-yard first half punt return gave him an early edge in the team's competition for the punt returner job.

DE Keyunta Dawson, signed during the unrestricted free agent signing period, turned in a big game totaling 7 tackles, including 4 tackles for a loss, and a sack.

The Bengals starting offense had a so-so performance however the team's 10-play 73-yard march in the second quarter made amends. RB Larry Johnson scored on 5-yard touchdown run which gave the Bengals a 7-3 first half lead. Starting QB Carson Palmer threw for 68 passing yards prior to being replaced midway through the second quarter.

QB Tyrod Taylor nearly led Cincinnati to a game-winning drive, marching the team all the way down to the Dolphins' 20-yard line with 0:04 remaining. But his desperation heave to the endzone was batted away as time expired, halting Cincinnati's bid for late heroics.

The Bengals (0-1) will travel to face Philadelphia (0-1) next week.

tough loss man. The offense looked a little stagnant and the run game had a tough time going. It always hurts to lose the close ones. Dawson had a huge game and Green looks like he could really contribute in Martz's offense. Good luck in your next game!

I just type it up as the draft goes by. Time consuming but it makes it feel more real.

Very excited about Green. He's looked good on punt returns and looks like we have a good insurance policy on C.J. Spiller. That was the main thing for me; We needed another speed back.

Hey man...You never know. This is the year 2012; Maybe Astorino steps up and becomes a stud in three years haha

Stephfon is probably not going to see the field at running back a ton. I'm thinking 3-4 carries per game unless he gets hot.

I always tried to crank out as many seasons as possible in my enterprises, so I did things to expedite that like letting the CPU control the CPU teams, simming the preseason, etc.

When I say control all 32 teams, I don't mean do all of their team management stuff. I would still let them run their teams obviously. But with stuff like the Patriots' trade of Seymour, I would make it happen.

I thought about simming the preseason when I first started this chise, but in the end I decided to try to make it more interesting for myself with the preseason roster cuts and preseason position battles. I'm really enjoying playing the preseason because of that.

Dawson really surprised me. I knew he would be good with his speed but not this good. If he keeps it up, he might find himself in the starting lineup.

Note: The following is a brief summary of the Bengals' August 18, 2012 preseason game versus Philadelphia. Normal full-scale reporting will be reinstituted at the start of the 2012 regular season.

                              49 -- 1-1
                              17 -- 1-1

Summary: The Cincinnati Bengals scored early and often amassing a 42-3 halftime lead en route to a 49-17 preseason win over the Philadelphia Ealges at Lincoln Financial Field. Cincinnati's 7-play 55-yard opening possession culminated with a 12-yard touchdown run by RB C.J. Spiller that made the score 7-0 and the Bengals would never look back.

Following a 10-yard touchdown pass from QB Carson Palmer to FB Jacob Hester, the Cincinnati defense got into the act on the very next offensive play for Philadelphia. On the play, OLB Keith Rivers stripped Eagles RB Brian Westbrook of the football and OLB Manny Lawson recovered and brought it in from 22 yards out to give the Bengals a commanding 21-0 lead.

The Eagles would finally get on the board when second year PK Thomas Weber made a 46-yard second quarter field goal to make the score 21-3.

However, on the ensuing kickoff, Bengals rookie second round draft pick Stephfon Green would show off his electric return skills with a dazzling 103-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The big play made the score 28-3 and all but cemented Green's spot as the team's primary return man. Green also continued to get big gains on punt returns, gaining 39 yards on 3 attempts with a long of 18. The former Penn State Nittany Lion also led the team with 65 rushing yards on the day.

Philadelphia's offense was held in check throughout the afternoon and the Bengals defense forced 4 turnovers by the unit. The Eagles would not score until the second half versus Cincinnati's back-ups.

The two teams are scheduled to meet again during the regular season.

The Bengals (1-1) will host Carolina (1-1) next week in their preseason home opener.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have released rookie seventh round draft choice WR Jeff Fuller (51). Fuller, who was drafted in the 7th round in this past April's draft out of Texas A&M, had 2 catches for 10 yards in two preseason games with the Bengals and was a long shot to make the team.

                                Bengals | RB Leonard signed
                                Mon, 20 Aug 2012 10:07:49 -0700
Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have signed RB Brian Leonard (64) to a one-year contract for the veteran minimum. Leonard, who has been on and off the team for each of the past 3+ seasons, is likely a long shot to make the club but gives the team a late-game option during the preseason to help keep their main backs healthy.
