NBA: Making Magic | A Washington Wizards Association

Making Magic | A Washington Wizards Association

    2007-2008 Wizards Season Recap:
The Washington Wizards worked hard all season to improve on the defensive side of the ball, and they managed to improve tremendously. After a season of ups and downs the Wizards managed to snag the number five seed of the playoffs and were set to matchup against their rivals, LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, they were defeated in six games after a heated battle between James and shooting guard DeShawn Stevenson. Overall, it was a good year for the Wizards squad. However, three-time all-star Gilbert Arenas went down with a season-ending knee injury, and he will be forced to miss much of the 2008-2009 season because of it. This hurts Washington's chances at success in the upcoming season drastically, as veteran Mike James will be forced to take the reigns as Washington's starting point guard.

    2008-2009 Wizards Season Preview:
Mike James and Javaris Crittenton will be splitting time at the point guard spot to fill in for the hurt Gilbert Arenas, and Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison will need to play as their normal selves all year long to make up for the huge void as a dominant scorer. Sophomore Nick Young and guard DeShawn Stevenson will be relied on to bring scoring off the bench, as will big man Andray Blatche. NBA experts aren't expecting much from Washington this year, and for that reason general manger Ernie Grunfield wants it to be known that nobody is safe, every single member of the Washington Wizards is on the market.

Ed Tapscott and Ernie Grunfeld Discuss Future Plans

    Grunfeld: Ed! How are ya?

Tapscott: Doing well Ernie, doing well. Ready to get down to business?

Grunfeld: As always. So, let's see if you agree with me here, Washington fans are hungry.

    Tapscott: Agreed.

Grunfeld: We haven't ever really come close to success, and now with Gilbert out all year, we have taken a step back!

Tapscott: Agreed. What are you getting at here though Ern'?

Grunfeld: I think it's time to shake things up a bit. We need to make a move. A big one, at that. Not anything that will shock the system and cause us to rebuild, but big enough to spark a run this year.

Tapscott: How big are we talking here? You thinking about Butler or Antawn?

Grunfeld: I do not want to see Caron leave. Jamison, however, sounds ok to let go of right now. He's over 30 and he's well past his prime, yet his value is still high enough to get a solid player. What do you think?

Tapscott: Hmm, I think it's a fine idea, but it's too early to pull the trigger on anything. Do you have any ideas of who you are targeting for him?

Grunfeld: Not sure yet, I know that Lamar Odom is unhappy in LA right now though, you hear he lost his starting job?

Tapscott: You know, I did hear that, Odom would be a nice fit for our team too. Look into that.

    Grunfeld: Oh, I will.

      Jamison Offended by Trade Rumors

      Jamison Offended by Trade Rumors

After catching word of the active trade rumors swirling around Washington DC, Antawn Jamison finally stepped out and commented.

"I don't know what I've done to earn this," said Jamison. "I have given my all since I've been here, and right now I feel unappreciated. I am very grateful to the city of Washington and its fans, but if I'm not wanted here, then I don't want to be here."

Jamison is expected to be traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in a package deal for Lamar Odom before the regular season starts. Even if the trade falls through, it seems that Antawn Jamison has played his final game as a Washington Wizard.

            Odom Intrigued by Rumors

            Odom Intrigued by Rumors

Lamar Odom discussed the trade rumors after a practice with the Lakers.

Forward Lamar Odom sat down and answered questions after working hard at practice with the Los Angeles Lakers, the team that has made Odom quite unhappy during the off-season.

The Lakers anounced that they would be bringing Odom off the bench for the upcoming season, looking to provide a spark on the second line. Odom, who has started his whole life, was shocked and extremely unhappy after hearing this.

Rumors began to swirl, and now a new team has stepped into the mix. The Washington Wizards are apparently looking to move star forward Antawn Jamison, and they seem to be very interested in acquiring Odom.

When asked about possibly playing for the Wizards, Odom said, " I mean, I wouldn't not play for them, if you know what I mean. I feel a little under appreciated here in California, and if a team like Washington wants me, of course I'll be interested."

Odom has always been critiqued for his effort and work ethic, maybe a fresh start would be good for the inconsistent forward.

Wizards Pull the Trigger, Send Jamison to LA for Odom

Wizards Pull the Trigger, Send Jamison to LA for Odom

After days of anticipation, the Washington Wizards and the Los Angeles have finally come to an agreement. The Wizards will send Antawn Jamison and Oleksiy Pecherov to the Lakers in exchange for Lamar Odom and a 2009 second round draft pick.

This brings the Wizards change, a new look for a team looking to move past the injury of Gilbert Arenas. Odom will slide right into the starting power forward spot, exactly what he wanted. He will also be teaming up with all-star small forward Caron Butler once again, Odom and Butler were teammated in Miami and then were both traded to the Lakers for Shaquille O'Neal.

The Lakers receive a dominant low post scorer in Antawn Jamison. Jamison bolsters the Lakers' lineup even more, now giving them Derek Fisher, Kobe Bryant, Jamison, Pau Gasol, and Andrew Bynum. Jamison will most likely start and not play the role of sixth man that Odom was expected to play.

Winners of the trade? Both teams made their squads better, but the Lakers prepared themselves for immediate success. The Los Angeles lineup is looking very intimidating, and if they weren't before, they are now the clear favorites to represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals.

The Wizards will not be close to the NBA Finals, and it's a stretch to even assume that they will be in the playoffs. However, Odom will bring a new face and excitement to Washington, something that Wizards fans haven't had in a long time.

yeah, but i never like jamison, and odom was unhappy in the beginning of the year and thats when the rumors about odom were going all around. so i figured it might be realistic to make the deal right away.

Odom Suiting Up As A Wizard For the First Time

Lamar Odom will play his first game as a Wizard tonight.

Lamar Odom, who was acquired by the Washington Wizards in the off-season, will be playing his first game later tonight on his new team.

"I'm excited to get out there," said Odom. "People aren't expecting a whole lot out of us this year, and I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to prove them wrong."

Odom, who averaged 14 points and 9 rebounds for the Los Angeles Lakers, will be depended on to step in to a much larger role for the Wizards. Gilbert Arenas will be out for the majority of the year, and Antawn Jamison, who was traded in exchange for Odom, was much more of an offensive force.

"I'll just have to do my job, do whatever I can to put the ball in the hoop," commented Odom when this issue was raised. "It's important for me to get off on the right foot, to get a quick start on the year."

Lamar Odom will look to do that tonight against Vince Carter and the New Jersey Nets.
