Mark Richt Post-Game Press Conference
Reporter: Do you think AJ Green has a legitimate shot at the Heisman this season?
Mark Richt: Thats a great question... I don't really think it is based off him though. If Murray can have a good season then he [Green] definitely has a shot. The real question is, will the Heisman voters vote for a non QB/RB? I don't truly know the answer to that.
Reporter: What is your expected record this season?
Mark Richt: Well, before the season the team, the coaches, and I all make a set of goals for the upcoming season. One of the goals is always an undefeated season. We have to expect perfection in every game. Now is it realistic that we go undefeated? Maybe, maybe not but that is what we strive for as well as every team in the nation does.
Reporter: Are you worried that if your team doesn't perform well this year, that you may be gone at the end of the season?
Mark Richt: I try not to think about it but I believe everything happens for a reason. God has a plan for me and I will trust him.
Reporter: What are your thoughts on Conference realignment?
Mark Richt: As a traditionalist, I absolutely hate it. I am very glad Texas stayed in the Big XII this year and look forward to watching them compete there hopefully for a long, long time.
Reporter: Your offense was pretty unbalanced this week, with the development of Aaron Murray do you see yourself passing more for his own good?
Mark Richt: Definitely. It was his first game today so we were just trying to get him adjusted and into the flow of the game. Since our running game was so effective, we could really pick and choose when to throw. Our goal is to get Murray around 20-25 passes a game by the end of the season.

(1-0) Georgia Bulldogs Vs South Carolina Gamecocks (1-0)
Chris Fowler: Okay guys, now lets talk about the Georgia-South Carolina game that will air on ESPN. On paper, the Dawgs are simply are better team than Gamecocks. Unfortunately for Georgia, games aren't played on paper though. It seems every year is a close, hard fought game in this rivalry. Most of the games are low-scoring, baseball type scores... except for last year when both offenses exploded for 78 combined points. Georgia prevailed on a late turnover on downs in the redzone.
That was in Athens though. This year is in Columbia, South Carolina. So, who do you think will win this match up, guys?
Kirk Herbstreit: I'm not really confident in either team, but I will say Georgia. I'm only picking them because they seem to win this game every year except for 2007.
Their defense really picked up in the second half last week and I look for it to continue progressing as it slows down Steve Spurrier and his offense.
Also, lets not forget what South Carolina did in the bowl game to Connecticut, a 20-7 snooze-fest. You might ask why does this matter? Well, Connecticut's secondary coach that game, Scott Lakatos, is now the secondary coach of the Dawgs. Go Dawgs!
Lee Corso: Not so fast my friend! This game is at South Carolina, right? And Georgia has a freshmen quarterback, correct? Well, I'm not a math whiz but even I can add that up.
You have to know that the Gamecocks are licking their chops at getting to attack Murray in his first road game of his career. USC will take away the running game and make Murray beat them, and he will get flustered baby!
I'm calling atleast two interceptions today and one by Stephon Gilmore!

Dawgs Somehow Escape With Win
Murray (above) throwing a bomb to A.J. Green deep.
-----------
ATHENS, GA -- In a system where "style points" are crucial in rankings teams, I think its safe to say Georgia just got negative points. Yet, somehow, someway, the Dawgs found a way.
If you take away Green's 71 yard reception in the 4th quarter, the Bulldogs mustered only 61 yards of offense. Murray would have only 20 passing yards. Not exactly pretty football.
Still, give Georgia credit on defense holding the Gamecocks to just ten points and 216 yards. One play that stands out is DeMarcus Dobbs returning a fumble 41 yards for a game tying touchdown in the 3rd quarter. This is his second touchdown of his career as he returned an interception over 70 yards in 2008 against Central Michigan.
South Carolina looked to win this game as they hit a go-ahead field goal with just under six minutes left in the game to go up 10-7. This is when Murray made the first highlight of his young career. Early in the drive at the Georgia ten yard line, Georgia looked to respond and tie the game back up. Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo called in a play action pass to get Murray into the flow of the game.
The safety bit on the fake and AJ Green was wide open and caught a 71 yard pass. Georgia quickly scored and gave Georgia a lead they wouldn't give up.
After the game, a reporter caught up to Murray who said, "Wow, I am still in shock. I was playing probably the worst football I have played in my whole life and I couldn't let my team and the Georgia faithful down. AJ [Green] is so good and when I saw him open down field, I just threw it as far as I could. I knew he would come down with it."

(2-0) Arkansas Razorbacks Vs Georgia Bulldogs (2-0)
Chris Fowler: One of our early games might be one of the better games of the day. At noon, 16th ranked Arkansas will travel down to Athens, Georgia, to play the Georgia Bulldogs. Last year the teams met in an offensive shootout for the ages. Who are ya'll picking to win?
Kirk Herbstreit: I don't have any good reason to point to and say this is why they will win, but I am going with Mark Richt and Georgia.
Last year, Georgia's offense dominated Arkansas and it was the defense that was the question mark. Well this is a new year with a new coordinator. I think Todd Grantham gets his boys ready to play and Georgia pulls off an "upset" if you can call it that at home. I'm saying 35-28 Georgia!
Lee Corso: Grantham is a fine coach, but he isn't on the level of Bobby Petrino yet. His offense's stats are simply staggering! They are 4th in points per game, 5th in total offense, and 4th in passing.
They also have a kid named Ryan Mallett, man does he have a cannon. He might be the top draft pick this year and is off to an amazing start this season. He has completed 71% of his passes for 700 yards and eight touchdowns! I couldn't even do that in a season!
And we are underrating their defense now too. They have the 9th ranked defense in yardage and are 7th in pass defense. Good luck Aaron Murray!
I'm calling Razorbacks win comfortably 42-21!

Georgia Wins In 5OT Classic!
Murray threading the needle to Green (above) for his first touchdown of the game.
-----------
ATHENS, GA -- Can you say instant classic? Wow, what a game!
The game started off rocky for the Dawgs as freshmen quarterback Aaron Murray threw two first quarter interceptions. Arkansas capitalized at scored first going up 7-0 on a nine yard pass from Ryan Mallett.
On the next drive, Murray finally started to show his potential and let the ball fly. He raced down the field and capped the drive off with a four yard pass to Orson Charles.
"I felt great out there. The speed of the game really slowed down and I felt comfortable finally." said Murray, "The coaches really let me play today and I appreciate everything Coach Bobo has done for me to get me prepared out there. I am just speechless..."
Speechless is what the entire nation would be as the game continued. Georgia went into the half up 17-14 and feeling confident. They looked to be putting the game out of reach when A.J. Green made a brilliant catch on a fade route in the red zone to go up 24-14.
Arkansas would scrap back into it however and tied the game up 24-24 with little time remaining after Ronnie Wingo Jr. scored one of his four touchdowns on the day.
In the first overtime, Georgia started out hot and completed the series with a three yard touchdown pass to Green. Arkansas would come right back however and score on the third play with a corner route that was an amazing play by Greg Childs.
The second overtime was another quick series where Wingo sliced through the Georgia defense and scored on a six yard run. Georgia slowly and methodically drove the 25 yards and Caleb King finished the drive off with a one yard run.
Drama, drama, and more drama filled the third overtime as both defenses came up huge. Georgia was driving but penalties killed their possession forcing a field goal for Blair Walsh who surprisingly, hooked it left. With their backs against the wall, Georgia's defense pinned their ears backs and decided to blitz Mallett crazy. The plan worked and they forced a three and out. Still, Arkansas needed just a field goal to win.
"At this point, we thought we had lost. Rarely does a team not score a field goal in overtime since you start at the 25. I figured if Blair [Walsh] could miss one, then why couldn't their kicker? So I called a timeout to ice their kicker and it worked! Man, oh man, did we get lucky there!" said coach Mark Richt.
Arkansas kicker Alex Tejada hooked the kick horribly to the right and looked extremely nervous out there.
Arkansas didn't mope around however and scored again in the fourth overtime to go up 44-38. Due to overtime rules, the Razorbacks were forced to go for a two point conversion and missed as Ryan Mallett overthrew Greg Childs in the endzone.
Georgia's offense was pissed about not getting any points the last overtime so they made sure they scored a touchdown early. They ran right through the opposing defense as Caleb King took a pitch five yards into the endzone. Needing a two point conversion to win, Bobo called in a fade route for Green in the corner of the endzone. Arkansas was expecting it however and had Green double covered and Georgia failed to win. Going into the 5th overtime the score was 44-44.
On third down in the fifth overtime, Murray found Marlon Brown for a touchdown to take the lead. The crowd was ecstatic but no! A yellow flag was on the field and the call was holding forcing a third and long. After an incompletion, Blair Walsh calmly nailed a 41 yard field goal.
Needing a touchdown to win, Arkansas started with a new swagger in their offense. In two plays they had already worked their way to Georgia's 9 yard line. Then, it seemed like they just fell apart. Two penalties pushed them back to the 29 yard line. Then, on 4th down, they went offside pushing the field goal to a scary length. Tejada was flustered and the kick was wide right! Georgia wins 47-44!

Mark Richt Post-Game Press Conference
Reporter: Aaron Murray took a huge stride today, and it seems like he has arrived. Does your philosophy change from a power running game to a vertical passing attack, after this kind of display against a tough Arkansas team?
Mark Richt: Well we still want to keep the power running game obviously but yeah Aaron [Murray] definitely hit his stride today. We opened the playbook up for him today and he responded with his best game. What this allows us is to do what we do best now: run the ball and then play action pass. We always strive to be really balanced and we are getting there now.
Reporter: Coach, you just finished a five overtime classic; what are your thoughts and how'd you guys pull it off?
Mark Richt: Yeah that was one heck of a team and Arkansas is one darn good football team. A.J. [Green], Aaron [Murray], and Washaun [Ealey] all had great games as did Rambo. It was a total team effort. It took all of us coming together to win and I just hope we didn't use all our energy in this game because we have a tough game next week.

(3-0) Georgia Bulldogs Vs Mississippi State Bulldogs (2-1)
Chris Fowler: Okay guys, our first game today is the battle of the Bulldogs. One one side is Georgia who just finished a grueling battle with Arkansas. On the other side is Mississippi State who is fresh off a 31-21 upset over LSU. What are your thoughts guys?
Kirk Herbstreit: This matchup is definitely one to watch. I want to see how much Georgia has left in the tank for this game. People already were saying this could be a trap game for them with a road trip to Colorado looming.
I also want to see if Georgia can contain Chris Relf. The Dawgs of the East have struggled with mobile quarterbacks as of late so it should be fun to watch this matchup.
I think they stop him and Mississippi State's offense and win in another close game!
Lee Corso: I agree wholeheartedly Kirk. Georgia's offense came alive last week and it is going to continue this week. Who is going to cover A.J. Green??? That guy is an animal and I honestly don't think he can be stopped. He and Georgia have big days today. Goooooooooooooooooo dawgs! Sic' em!
