Late Comeback Not Enough To Beat Georgia

Tavarres King (above) scoring his first touchdown on the season.

    -----------

ATHENS, GA -- Is it safe to say that Georgia has yet to put together a complete game? In week one and two, they struggled in the first half. Last week against Arkansas, they struggled at the end.

This week was more of the same.

Georgia dominated the first half led by Caleb King who had 54 yards at the half and the team was rolling. Murray was showing off his talent, the defense was dominating... and then, halftime.

The team scored on the opening possession and then seemed to go into cruise control. This is the problem with Mark Richt teams. It always has been. They don't have the killer instinct. It is going to cost them eventually unless it gets fixed, and soon.

The offense was once again led by A.J. Green who had five receptions for 111 yards. Caleb King led Georgia in rushing with 81 yards on 14 carries.

On defense, Darryl Gamble led the team in sole tackles with ten but the star was DeAngelo Tyson. Tyson had eleven tackles total, seven solo, three tackles for loss, two sacks, and a forced fumble. Don't be surprised if he wins SEC Defensive Player of the Week.

Mississippi State was led by running back Robert Elliot who had 98 yards on 17 carries. Quarterback Chris Relf had a shaky day with 13/30 for 209 yards.

      Mark Richt Post-Game Press Conference

Reporter: Coach Richt. Is there a reason why your team is so boss? Any truth to the rumors that you do indeed, run this state?

Mark Richt: I think it is safe to say we do run this state. Don't believe me? IT IS ON CALEB KING'S ARMS!

Reporter: Excuse me Coach. I'd like an order of Nachos, with some AJ Green cheese covered dick on the side. Could you make that happen?

Mark Richt: Of course you can have some. Play me online some time and I could give it to you

Kentucky Upsets 4th Ranked Florida, Brantley Hurt!

GAINESVILLE, FL. -- The unranked Kentucky Wildcats ride a huge 4th quarter to a 31-17 victory.

Quarterback John Brantley got hurt on the first play of the game and has a torn shoulder. He will be out for 6 weeks.

The game was tied with 7:02 seconds left in the game until Kentucky running back Derrick Locke broke free for a touchdown run of five yards to make the score 24-17. Just three minutes later, the Wildcats crossed the goal line again as Melillo received a ten yard pass from Newton.

"I am disgusted at the game. I don't even want to think about it." said coach Urban Meyer, "That was the most pathetic football game I have ever seen. We will come back from this however, we are still the team to beat in this division and you can believe that."

But with Brantley out, are they still the team to beat? Backup quarterback Trey Burton struggled mightily with a stat line of 11/29, 177 Yds, Touchdown, and two 2 Interceptions. Not exactly world beater numbers.

To make matters worse, Florida now has to travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to face the Crimson Tide without Brantley. Can you say blowout?

          Alabama Falls To Arkansas!

FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. -- In a wacky week in college football, the two favorites in the SEC fell to lesser teams.

First it was Florida falling to Kentucky. Later, it was Alabama getting upset by Arkansas.

Arkansas had been close to upsetting teams in the past, such as Florida in 2009, but never could finish it off in the 4th quarter. Well today they did. In the fourth quarter, they cameback and out scored the Crimson Tide 21 to 3 to win 42-34.

Even more surprising is how pathetic Alabama's defense looked in the loss. Quarterback Ryan Mallett threw for 500 and five touchdowns as Petrino's offense racked up 600 offensive yards.

The player of the game had to be receiver Greg Childs who had 13 receptions for almost 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Interestingly enough, both Florida and Alabama, meet next week to spar off in what looked to be a battle of unbeatens. Now, it is who is gonna lose two in a row.

This is what makes college football what it is. Gotta love it!

                  ----

(4-0) Georgia Bulldogs Vs Colorado Buffaloes (2-1)

Chris Fowler: Last week the SEC got turned upside down as Alabama, Florida, LSU all got upset. Now, the Crimson Tide went from the top ranked team in the nation, to last place as of right now in the SEC West. Will Georgia be the next upset? This week they travel to over the the Mississippi River for only the 3rd time in a long, long time. Last year they traveled to Oklahoma State and played sluggish in a 24-10 defeat. Two years ago, Georgia traveled to Arizona State and won in impressive fashion. So which fate will the Dawgs receive today?

Kirk Herbstreit: I think you have to go with Georgia here. Georgia has always been a great road team. I think they have something like five true road losses this decade. Its an unbelievable stat.

Lets be fair, Colorado isn't a good team. They have played well this season with a win against Hawaii and a close loss to California but the talent just simply isn't there.

One thing to look at though is Colorado had a bye week last week so they have had some time to prepare for Georgia.

Still, I have Georgia winning in a convincing manner today guys.

Lee Corso: Glory, glory to ole Georgia, glory, glory to ole Georgia! I love that fight song and I love this team!

Of course I am picking Georgia! They have so much talent with Green, Ealey, King, and other players. I think they win this one easily too. Go dawgs!

Reports: Caleb King Out For Season

Caleb King (above) was finally settling into his role at Georgia.

ATHENS, Ga. -- At one point, Caleb King was the next "one". The next great back at Georgia. In fact, in high school people were comparing him to the great Herschel Walker as he was shattering all his former high school records.

King was riding high and was a 5 star recruit and a premier back in the nation.

Then, just six games into his Senior season, he broke his leg costing him the season. Still, Georgia kept the scholarship to him and many fans still expected him to be great in the 2007 season.

He arrived on campus with no explosiveness and clearly affected by the injury both physically and emotionally. He was hesitant of contact and looked to try to avoid any form of contact in the backfield. Mark Richt and the staff decided it would be best to redshirt him.

In 2008, King was still lacking his former speed and explosiveness that made him a top recruit. Still, he and Richard Samuel got playing time behind now Denver Bronco Knowshon Moreno. King however, was put in Richt's dog house for laziness in pass blocking. This came to a climax in the Florida game when King didn't pick up a key block in the 3rd quarter. King was benched and didn't play a down for the rest of the season.

The next offseason, the coaching staff raved about King's effort level and was impressed with his pass blocking. In fact, it became one of his strengths. He was listed as the starter for the Oklahoma State season opener in the Spring until unfortunately King was injured again. This time he claimed fatigue in his hamstring.

The season came and slowly he became healthy and got into a groove in the LSU game until, once again he became injured. This time, he broke his jaw when a LSU player speared him on a tackle. King was tough and only missed a few weeks with the injury. In fact, he was talking about how he finally felt completely healthy in his leg for the first time in three years.

When he started to play again, it showed as King rushed for 594 yards last season including 166 yards in the season finale against Georgia Tech. It was his breakout game and he was finally the starter.

This offseason progressed and while the talk became about sophomore Washaun Ealey, King was slowly cementing his role as starter. They would split carries but King was looked at as one of the leaders of the team.

Unfortunately, on his first carry of the game against Colorado, King was injured again. On a run play, he was in the middle of a juke when a Colorado defensive player speared King's side. King immediately started screaming in pain and there was a scare in the stadium as everyone had their eyes on number four.

King was carted off to the locker room in extreme pain and we are receiving word now that King has suffered a dislocated hip. This injury will take him 4-6 months to heal meaning he will miss the remaining part of the season.

This is a huge blow to the Georgia offense and to Caleb King himself.

Now fans have to wonder, with so many injuries to his leg, will King ever be the same player he showed last season and in the early part of this season?

                      Distracted Georgia Escapes With Win

A.J. Green (above) simply can't be covered this year.

                      -----------

ATHENS, GA -- After Caleb King went down with a season ending injury, the whole mood of the Georgia team changed. They played scared, cautious, and hesitant. Avoiding the big hit that could cause injury.

They were distracted. Who wouldn't be? Their running back just dislocated his hip in a horrific tackle.

Still, as always, they did just enough to win.

Aaron Murray started off rocky but calmed down and ended with 13/26 for 153 passing yards and two scores. The big stat is he finally didn't throw an interception. Most of his passes were thrown to A.J. Green who caught seven of them for 95 yards and a touchdown.

On the ground, Washaun Ealey had a huge game with 127 yards on 24 carries. He is going to definitely see an increase in carries with King out. Speed back Carlton Thomas will also see more and today he delivered. On just seven carries he had 46 yards.

On the other team, Colorado was led by a three headed attack: Tyler Hansen, Rodney Stewart, and Scotty McKnight. Hansen threw for 321 yards and three scores. Stewart rushed for 110 yards and caught 6 passes for 46 more. McKnight had 124 yards on 6 receptions also.

(3-2) Tennessee Volunteers Vs Georgia Bulldogs (5-0)

Chris Fowler: Today is a match-up of SEC East teams with the Tennessee Volunteers traveling to Athens to play the Georgia Bulldogs. The Bulldogs seem like the easy favorites but there is something about Tennessee against Georgia. In 2006, Tennessee won at Georgia 51-33. Then in 2007, Tennessee won again 35-14. In 2009, Tennessee won 45-19 in a true blowout. So guys, what happens in 2010?

Kirk Herbstreit: I'm going with Georgia in this game. I think Tennessee is worse than we first thought. After the Oregon beatdown, everyone was amazed at this team. Now, Oregon is 2-3. Tennessee lost a heartbreaker to Florida but that Florida team has lost two straight now. Last week, they looked horrible in a ugly 14-7 loss to LSU who is also struggling.

I think this week Tennessee gets exposed by Georgia!

Lee Corso: I agree Kirk and I'll tell you why... revenge. Georgia has heard from everyone how Tennessee has their number and to win the SEC East they have to beat Tennessee. They are gonna get it done today!

The thing I want to see is how they treat Derek Dooley. Yes, that is the son of Vince Dooley, the famous Georgia coach and Athletic Director.

                              I think Georgia wins 17-7!

Murray To Green With Five Seconds Left!

Washaun Ealey (above) and the team celebrating after A.J. Green's touchdown catch.

                                -----------

ATHENS, GA -- With 16 seconds left in the game, Georgia received the ball at their own 38 yard line for one last shot at winning the game. With no timeouts Bobo decided the best bet would be to draw up a bomb for star receiver A.J. Green.

"Murray drops back, pump fakes left, Green is open. He lets it go." said now Georgia announcer Buck Belue, "He might get this. He might... OHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! HE CAUGHT IT. HE CAUGHT IT!!!!!!!! A.J. Green!!!!!!!!!!!! Georgia has no timeouts, they have to hurry up, come on guys. Murray takes the snap, Green is open again. TOUCHDOWN!!!!! Are you kidding me? Yes!!!!!!!!"

This time, there was no flags for celebrating. Georgia just had a play for the ages that will forever be known as Murray-to-Green.

Georgia once again escaped a game without a loss. Tennessee is devastated that they lost this game in the rain drenched Sanford Stadium.

Washaun Ealey carried the team up until that point with 224 rushing yards and two long touchdown runs. Aaron Murray with two turnovers that cost points but rebounded nicely in the 4th quarter.
