      Chapter 20: Faithful
      August 29, 2025

"Now who liked the taste of that?" my Dad asked as we were celebrating in the locker-room. "That was just a taste though, gentlemen. We've got a lot of work ahead of us if we want to reach our goals. Now get a shower and get out of here. I'll see you guys Monday to review gamefilm."

I took Dad's advice and quickly showered, before heading upstairs to the gym. The place was already packed and it was definitely something different, something I wasn't used to; kinda like a less-formal Homecoming, if anything. A few of my teammates were sitting on the bench, so I made my way over there to hang out with them. However, I was quickly tapped on the shoulder and had my route re-directed.

"Nice game tonight," Allison congratulated me. "You were really good out there."

"Thanks," I replied. "Where's Bryan at? I haven't seen him here yet."

"He's not into these things," she answered. "You should have seen how I convinced him to go to Homecoming last year." I raised my brow at that, but she playfully shoved me aside. "Not in a dirty way, silly."

"I was just messing," I said. "So...what exactly goes on at these things? All the guys sit around and watch the cheerleaders grind on one another?"

"Not exactly, because I'm not out there," she laughed, before the music switched up to something slower. "All the cheerleaders participate in the slow songs though." She smiled, took my hand and directed me to the middle of the court where there were plenty of couples already dancing.

The song was a familiar one, so I started opening up my vocal chords, not even realizing who I was dancing with. I stopped myself before getting too into the song, but Allison didn't really care for that. "Sorry," I apologized.

"No, continue please," she insisted. "You're a really good singer."

A smile crept upon my face as granted her wish and continued singing. I felt a connection between us and I think she felt it too, as she looked up into my blue eyes and just gazed at them for the duration of the song. As the final lyric was sung, I looked down at her one last time and she leaned for a kiss; a kiss I couldn't give her.

"I'm sorry Allison," I apologized once again. "I mean I'm definitely attracted to you and I'm starting to like you, but I just can't do this if you're still with Bryan."

"It's okay, I understand," she replied, taking her hands off of my waist. "You know I like you too, but yeah, this isn't right with Bryan."

We walked away from each other, but soon enough I felt her turn me around and look at me with those piercing hazel eyes. "Want to come over tomorrow? We can go to the movies or something...just as friends."

I thought about it for a few seconds, then gave her the answer she was wanting to hear. "Yeah sure, that'd be pretty fun."

"See you tomorrow then," she said, before giving me a goodbye hug and walking her graceful self out of the gym.

It's not considered cheating if you're just hanging out with the girl...alone...right?

          Chapter 21: Sneaking Around
          August 30, 2025

"Already have a date, Sean Joseph?" Dad asked as he saw me dressed in attire that would suggest that. However, I shook his assumption off.

"Nah, I'm just going out with a friend," I replied. "There's nothing between us."

"So it's a girl then," he shot back with a goofy smile on his face. "Sounds like a date to me."

"Whatever," I scoffed, before walking out the door to her parents' vehicle. When I saw Allison, we exchanged smiles before I greeted her parents as they took us to Altoona; a town about 40 minutes away that had numerous things to do in it.

          ...

"Have fun you two!" her mom said, before driving off and leaving us there at the mall. We walked inside and started window-shopping, mingling in a little small-talk, before she drug me into a lingerie store after seeing someone familiar.

"Well at least you dragged me into a good store," I joked, nudging her on the shoulder. She chuckled as she realized where we were at, then pushed me aside. "Who was that anyways?"

"Bill," she answered. "He's one of Bryan's best friends. If he saw me in here, alone with you, he'd definitely flip out and drop it to Bryan..."

"Wait, Bryan doesn't know that you're with me?"

"Nope," she revealed, before switching up her tone. "Why? Is that a problem?"

"Well I rather not get into some shit with my top receiver," I shot back as I started pondering whether this was a good idea or not. I was about to tell her that we should just go home, until...

"Everything will be fine," she insisted, looking up at me, then giving me a kiss. "I promise."

I smiled as her expression of intimacy completely changed my tone. "I'm sorry, you said everything would be fine?" She laughed and gave me another kiss, in which I responded with, "okay, I believe you."

"Good, because I was going to have to beat you in bowling if you didn't believe me."

"I don't think you were going to beat me anyways," I laughed but she didn't return the amusement. "Oh, so you really think you can beat me, huh?"

She nodded her head. "I'm more than just a pretty face, Sean Joseph."

          "We'll see."

          ...

"Well I guess you weren't lying," I remarked as I looked up to see the 130 on the scoreboard above me. "You are more than just a pretty face."

"You're just saying that," she said, blushing. "I bet you just let me win."

"Nah, you beat me fair and square," I insisted. "I got my father's bowling skills...which isn't much, as you can tell."

"It's okay, I think the star athlete can handle me being better than them at something."

"Well is that the only thing you're better than me at?" I asked, trying to get another intimate answer out of her.

"You really want to find out?" she replied with a question of her own, before taking my hand, dragging me out of the open and into a janitor's closet. After shutting the door, she gave me a very mischievous look and went in for one kiss, then two, and so on. However, as soon as I was about to go into third base and round home, she pulled away. "It's getting late, you think I should call my mom to get us?"

I was confused about why we stopped but decided not to push anything. "Yeah, sure."

"Okay," she said as she peeked out of the door crack. She saw it was clear so she ushered us out, then she pulled out her phone to call her mom. "You want to keep sneaking around like this? I promise nothing will get out."

I thought about the consequences, but the thrill of being with Allison overpowered them.

          "Definitely."

              Chapter 22: Playing With Fire
              September 5-12, 2025

"And the Warriors go into halftime leading the Central Scarlet Dragons, 21-3, behind the arm of Sean Joseph Woy. The sophomore quarterback has already thrown for 200 yards and two touchdowns and doesn't look to slow down in the second half.

              ...

"And it's another touchdown for Spiderman's son! Everett adds onto their lead after Woy took it in himself for the sixth Warrior touchdown of the game!"

I was pulled at the end of the third quarter with possibly the best stats of my young career; 348 passing yards, 87 rushing yards and five total touchdowns. The second-string didn't hurt much, giving up 10 points, as we cruised to a 42-13 win and a 2-0 start to the season.

              ...

              "Hello?"

"What are you doing, Sean Joseph?"

"Just chilling at the house...did Bryan just leave?"

              "Yeah, he did. You wanna..."

              "I'll be right over."

              ...

"After two yawners, the Everett Warriors come into Loysburg to face the 2-0 Northern Bedford Panthers. The Panthers, who have been state playoff contenders for the last five years now, give the Warriors their first real test of the season."

              ...

"Woy goes down for the fourth time in this first half...the Warriors look overmatched in this one as it's already 17-0 NBC."

I limped back to the huddle, favoring my right leg as it was trampled on during the last sack. It was obvious that NBC was a completely different animal than Claysburg and Central, and although it was still the first half, we just hoped to get out of here without any serious injuries.

"Woy looks to pass once again...has a little bit of protection this time as he fires it in Mitchell's direction....the senior receiver gets a hand on it and oh! He takes a shot and it doesn't look very good, folks."

I watched with my teammates as Bryan was slowly helped up by the trainers, clutching his arm, wincing in pain. At halftime, those same trainers confirmed that he broke it, which would pretty much end his regular season.

              ...

"I really can't believe we just got our asses handed to us like that," I remarked, as Mike nodded his head in agreement. "38-3...I've never been a part of something that bad."

"Yeah, I hear ya man," he replied, as his shoulder pads slowly started to come off his body. "The bright side is that it's only one game and won't effect us too much for playoffs. We really don't have another team like that on the schedule."

"Damn man, I hope so," I chuckled. "I don't think I can take a beating like that again. I'm so fucking sore."

"Have your girl make it feel better," he insisted quietly, knowing of Allison and I's thing we've had going on for a few weeks.

"Bryan's girl," I reminded him. "Besides, he got hurt, remember? She's probably going to the hospital to check on him or something." As soon as I finished my sentence, my phone in my bag started vibrating, showing a missed text message. "Allison."

"Yeah, she's at the hospital with Bryan alright," he scoffed.

"Could I come over tonight?" I read the message out loud as Mike smirked. "What should I say?"

"What the hell do you think, dude?"

"Dad was saying about going out and visiting an old friend tonight."

"Well I shouldn't have to spell your answer out for you then," he laughed.

              ...

              *KNOCK KNOCK*

I opened the door to the brunette cheerleading beauty, who had the same innocent smile on her face that she did most of the time. "Hey, can I come in?" she asked, as I gave her permission with a head nod. "You alone?"

"Not anymore," I said, as I shut the door behind her. "Why didn't you check up on Bryan?"

"I texted him a few times, but he didn't answer any of them," she replied, as she took my hand and started leading me somewhere.

"Woah, maybe I should do the leading," I chuckled. "How do you know where my room's at?"

"Maybe I just wanted to get lost with you," she half-joked, pushing me against one of the hall walls. She leaned in for a kiss, then put her finger over my lips before I could meet her halfway. "You sure do like playing with fire, huh?"

"Yes I do...because I know I won't get burnt," I insisted, before pulling her finger off and finishing off the first kiss of the many tonight.

That's kind of fucked up, putting your dick in your star receiver's girlfriend.

                      Chapter 23: Thrills
                      September 19-October 3, 2025

"The Warriors will fall to 2-2 after giving up 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter."

                      ...

"Everett falls once again, this time to their biggest rival Tussey Mountain, 24-9."

                      ...

"What a shocker here at Warrior Stadium as ICC-bottom feeder Hyndman upset the Warriors, 14-13!"

                      ...

"What the fuck was that!?" my father shouted as we trudged our sorry asses into the locker-room. "Do you guys even want to play out the rest of the season?" No one spoke up, instead we all stared down at the ground, feeling sorry for ourselves. Dad got frustrated and just walked into his office, slamming the door so hard that the one whiteboard fell to the ground.

We continued the silent treatment, with only slight whispering among some people as the shoulder pads came off from everyone. Then as I changed into street clothes, Dan walked up to me.

"Dude, this fucking blows," I said as he nodded his head in agreement. "We need something to get us back on track."

"Yeah, maybe like some team bonding shit would help," he suggested. "Got any ideas?"

I thought of possible hangout spots, from a random field party to a team dinner at Hooters. As the minutes ticked away and I was still pondering of places, Dan started to walk away. However, I stopped him dead in his tracks when I finally figured out something.

"Wait, I got it. You ever hear of this place called Falls Cut?" I asked, after remembering the place. Dad told me about how he would go there the day after losing a game in basketball or football, just to relax and get his mind away from everything. I figured if it'd work for him, it'd might work for us.

"Sounds familiar, but I've never been there," he replied. "What is it?"

"Basically just a cliff-diving place, but it's so secluded from everything and it's just very chill," I told him. "My dad used to go there back in the day when he needed to relax."

"This could definitely work," he said, once again nodding his head up and down. "I'll spread the word and we'll all meet here or something. You wanna ride with me?"

                      "Yeah sure."

                      ...

"Bro, I'm not going to lie," Dan said as we led the train of cars pulling into Falls Cut. "This place looks absolutely sick. Great spot, man."

"Yeah, Dad must have had some really kick-ass times here," I agreed, stepping out of the car. Most of the starters came out with us and were all in awe, looking upon the beautiful sight. "Well, what the fuck are you guys waiting for? Let's have some fun!" I took off my shoes and jumped off the 30 foot cliff, diving into the cool water below.

The team quickly joined, one by one leaping off the 30 foot cliff. Eventually some of them got their towels and rested, while others seeking a thrill like me walked up to the 50 foot cliff and dove off of it. Once I got a little tired of imitating an Olympic diver, I found a spot to dry off and take a nap. That nap was interrupted though, as I heard a car pull in.

"Hey!" a high voice yelled out as a car door slammed shut. I turned around, opened up one eye and saw four girls walk out in bikinis, Daisy Duke shorts and over-sized sunglasses. They started walking out to where the cliffs were at; well three of them did. The other one came over my way and stood over me as I opened my eyes.

"Didn't expect to see you today," I said as I got up from laying down and gave Allison a hug. "Who told you about here?"

"Bryan said something about it when I was at his place," she replied, which I didn't particularly care for. "Now, are you going to get up and show me how to dive off this thing or am I going to have to pick your lazy ass up?"

I laughed and sprung myself up, giving her a kiss as we walked over to the 30 foot cliff. A few minutes of standing over it scared commenced, before I picked her up and held her over it.

"Put me down!" she screamed, using my chest as a punching bag. I obliged to her request and sat her down, sitting myself down right beside her as we looked out upon the beautiful Pennsylvania autumn sky.

"My dad was right...this place really just chills you out," I said to myself, but loud enough for Allison to hear. "I definitely needed this."

"Yeah I agree," she said. "It's nice to get away from the drama and such at Everett." I chuckled to myself because of her statement, since she was playing a lead role in that film. Then she stood up, looked down at the water below once again and finally jumped off, screaming a little before the splash quieted her.

"That wasn't that bad, huh?" I asked as she poked her head up from the water. She shook her head no and smiled, before swimming off to the side as I dove in myself. When I swam back up to the surface, I saw her standing on a rock, motioning me to hurry up.

"You were right," she stated as I finally swam my way over to the edge. "That's a huge thrill."

"You think that'll get your blood pumping?" I shot back. "Try jumping off the 50."

"Maybe another day," she laughed. "I know something else that can get our blood pumping though." She gave me a mischievous look, took my hand and walked me into a private spot of the woods.

Once again, one kiss led to two, two led to three, and so forth. However, instead of using my help, she started to untie her bikini top herself and right before she got to the bottoms, I stopped her. "Are you sure about this? You didn't seem like going through with it a few weeks ago."

"Positive," she said, finishing off her changing of clothes and starting her trot around home plate.

                        Chapter 24: Polar Opposites
                        October 9-23, 2025

"Finally Everett will get back on track with a win tonight over the Bedford Bisons, 27-10."

And just like that, our little get-together worked, putting us in the win column after defeated one of the top teams in the ICC. Everything was looking up - not only football-wise, but relationship-wise with Allison since I finally sealed the deal with her - but unfortunately, the latter wasn't the case.

                        ...

"Hey, something wrong?" I asked Allison as she picked out her next class's books from her locker. "You didn't answer my texts all weekend."

"I just need my space," she answered, grabbing her last book from the bottom shelf. "Maybe we shouldn't talk for a while."

"Wait...why?" I blurted out before she shut the locker door and walked her graceful body the opposite direction of mine. I continued my walk, until I ran into Jenna, one of Allison's friends.

"Hey," I stopped her, walking in her direction before leaning against her locker. "You know what's wrong with Ally?"

"Nah, why?" she answered, confused about the situation. "What's up?"

"She's just been acting weird since Saturday," I replied. "She's not answering my texts, doesn't want me over...it's just weird that she would change her tune like that."

                        ...

"Sean Joseph Woy doesn't have anyone open...but he has a hole in front of him! He's to the 30, the 20 and he'll get in untouched! Everett takes a late 30-26 lead over the Chestnut Ridge Lions."

                        ...

"Sean Joseph...where the fuck do you think you're going!?"

"Oh, hey Bryan," I turned around, starting to greet him before I took a cast across the face, falling backwards onto the floor.

"Yeah, I fucking heard about Allison cheating on me with you," he revealed, fuming mad and ready to use his cast as a baseball bat again.

"What's going on out here!?" a teacher shouted, running over to the situation. The crowd of students, awaiting and eager to see a fight, scattered off in different directions, as I laid on the ground rubbing the bruise on my cheek.

                        ...

"Come on Allison, you know you like him," Jenna reminded the stubborn and confused cheerleader, who wouldn't speak her actual thoughts of the situation.

"Jenna, you have no clue what I'm going through right now," she shot back, shaking her head in disgust.

"Well tell me Allison," she insisted, grabbing her arm. "You know you can trust me."

                        "Alright, well..."

                        ...

"And that's it! Everett will win their third straight, defeating the Forbes Road Cardinals, 33-6. With just one game left, they'll face the Mount Union Trojans for the chance to make the District playoffs...a far cry from where they were the previous two seasons."

                        ...

"Are you sure about all of this?"

"Not really, but I want to take this to be completely sure about things."

                        "He did..."

                        "Yes, of course he did.."

                        "Then why are you worried?"

"Just give me the damn thing, Jenna."

"Alright...just don't scream bloody murder if it gives you the result you're not looking for."

                          Chapter 25: Forgiveness
                          October 29-30, 2025

"Remember to tell your parents about their meeting time with me tomorrow," Miss Wilt announced to the class as the bell rung in the background. "And to the football players, good luck and bring home a playoff berth!"

"Yeah we're going to do just that," I said confidently to Mike, as we walked out of the room to our next class.

"You know it," he replied, sharing the same confidence. Then after some small-talk while walking down the hall, Mike touched on what was a sore subject lately. "You and Allison talking again?"

"Nah," I answered, shrugging my shoulder out of confusion since I didn't know the actual reason why. "We just hung out at Falls Cut about a month ago, but after that, she hasn't said more than 10 words to me."

"That's weird," he said, stopping at his locker to throw his book in there. "There's other fish here though...just throw her back in the water and snag a bigger one."

"A bigger one? You want me to go chubby-chasing?"

"You know what I meant," he laughed, before patting me on the back and walking into his next class.

As I turned around to continue my walk towards my next class, I ran into the shorter girl in front of me, knocking both of our books on the floor. I went down to pick up my class materials, not even noticing who it was until I stood back up.

"Oh hey," I awkwardly muttered out loud to the brunette beauty standing in front of me. She just shook her head and started walking away, before I grabbed her arm and pulled her back; not in a vicious way though. "We need to talk...who do you have next?"

"I don't really want to talk, Sean..."

"Who do you have next?" I repeated, trying to see how much time I had to talk to her.

"Francis," she reluctantly replied, still trying to get away.

"He's got a sub, you can skip. Come with me, please."

She looked down both ways of the hall as the late bell rang, then gave in to my demands and followed me out of the school, where we found a bench to sit on.

"What do you want Sean Joseph?" she asked with a hint of anger and disgust in her voice.

"What's wrong with you?" I answered her question with one of my own. "You won't even talk to me anymore...did I do something wrong?"

                          "It's nothing..."

"No, it has to be something because you won't answer my texts or even look at me anymore. What did I do to make you completely change your thoughts about me?"

"It's not you," she muttered. "It's me."

"Please just tell me," I insisted. "What's going on Allison?"

"Well I took a pregnancy test the other day..."

Holy shit, my heart just dropped into my lower intestine, I kid you not.

                          "...but it was negative."

And now it's back in its rightful place, as I breathed a sigh of relief. I searched for something to say, before finally spitting out the first thing that was on my mind.

                          "Was that...you know?"

She gave me a confused look, but then understood what I meant. Her head dipped into her lap, then whispered loud enough for me to hear but in the direction of the pavement below us, "yes."

I straightened myself out from my slumped over leaning position and visualized everything again. Did I pressure her into doing something she didn't want to? How did I feel about taking away something she'd never get back? I pretty much felt like absolute shit and put my head into my cupped hands. "I'm sorry."

She picked her head up and looked at me with forgiving eyes. "Really?"

"Yes, I am. I can tell that it's definitely something you valued very much and I just took it away from you. We value sex very differently, I guess. I feel like I forced you into it and for that, I'm very, very sorry."

She noticed the forgiveness in my voice and laid her hand on my shoulder. "You didn't force it...it was just a stupid mistake by me. I forgive you Sean Joseph, but I can't see us being anything more than friends for a while."

"Part of you in my life is better than none of you," I stated, giving her a hug as the bell rang, signaling the end of class and our talk.

                          ...

"Tell your son to keep up the good work, Mr. Taylor."

The parent shook the teacher's hand and walked out, leaving the door open to usher the next parent in. However, the greeting between the two wasn't your typical one, as they both stood there in shock, waiting for the other to speak up.

                          "Ethan..."
