Clawing Back to the Bowl | A Carolina Panthers Redemption Story

After an average at best season in 2009, the Panthers are looking to somehow bring themselves back into championship contender form. The Panthers have been contenders since John Fox took over in 2002, making the playoffs 3 times with a appearance in the Super Bowl in 2003. However with the diminishing ability of Jake Delhomme last year management decided to go a different way. Toward the end of the season, now 4th year vet Matt Moore started. Although he showed promise, Jimmy Clausen was drafted in April of 2010. This quarterback battle should prove to be a very interesting race for the starting job in their season opener. It is said that if John Fox does not produce this year, he could be fired. This organization could be at the brink of becoming a rebuilding team, or this season could be the start of a dynasty. Only time will tell.

John Fox : Conference Before Camp
"The Carolina Panthers just want everyone to know they are going to be exhibiting a new more aggressive style of ball this year. This starts with management, and ends with the players on the field. Management also would like everyone to know we are going to be going after a few select free agents that are still out there. We are going to sure up both sides of the ball before opening of the season, this is certain."

              Camp Focus : QB

              Jimmy Clausen vs Matt Moore
While Matt Moore played well last season, the Panthers decided to draft Jimmy Clausen out of Notre Dame in the second round. Both of these young QB's have alot of potential. Matt will have the job unless Jimmy beats him out, however that is not out of the question. Both of these QB''s have been getting alot of rep's on the first team and either could win the job.

              Predictions:
              Adam Schefter : Clausen
              Steve Wyche : Moore
              Jason La Confora : Moore
              Pat Kirwan : Clausen

              Message from Fox:
"I'm challenging both Matt and Jimmy to earn the starting role. The best player will play."

I'm definitely following this. Panthers are a popular team to 'chise with this season, it seems. Hope this goes well.

                    Clausen Wins Starting Job:
It's official, Jimmy Clausen will be starting week 1 for the Carolina Panthers. Coach John Fox came out and told the media two days after their last pre-season game. This could be the start of an era, or the beginnings of a terrible season in Carolina.

                      Injury Report:
Starting ROLB Thomas Davis has suffered a broken ankle the week of practice preceding the season opener. This injury is so serious that Davis will be sidelined for an entire season. With this loss at OLB, the Panthers contact OLB Adalius Thomas. This 33 year old vet will be replacing Davis for the entire 2010 season at ROLB. He is signed for a 2 year, 6.7 million dollar deal with a 1.5 million dollar signing bonus. This injury will hurt the Panthers but with the addition of Thomas it shouldn't cripple them. To complete this signing the Panthers had to release MLB Brett Warren.

                        "Clausen Shines in Rookie Opener"
With all the pressure on him, Jimmy Clausen played a great game in his rookie opener. With only one crucial mistake, he threw to an incredible 122.8 passer rating. Hooking up with speed demon Steve Smith for two touchdowns didnt hurt either. With a relatively ineffective run game, Jimmy showed that he can be that playmaker quarterback the Panthers were searching for. Jimmy was incredibly accurate and found the right holes to throw to. His pocket presence was also impressive, not taking a sack from the Giants amazing defensive line.
